The Good Guys Are Back In Front

Walking out the gates of Shelbourne Park on Saturday night after racing I was talking to a well-known punter and I asked him how he got on, his response was “It was a blood bath for punters tonight Damo”.

Bad Day For Favs
Everything that could go wrong, went wrong for favourite backers! It wasn’t a great week for in general for punters after the withdrawals of both Clares Rocket and Jaytee Jet before the second round, but if you backed either of these runners after Monday the 8th of August with us here in BoyleSports, you are entitled to a refund. Let’s hope both Jet and Rocket will both recover from whatever niggles they have and who knows, we might see them in action in the BoyleSports Night Of Stars 550 on the 12th of November?

Thursday night’s opening session of second round heats was looking very dreary for bookmakers after the first three short priced favourites Laughil Duke (29.43), Farloe Joey (29.62) and Rural Hawaii (29.67) all won with relative ease but then things took a drastic turn! Ballydoyle Honey went to traps a red hot 1/2 jolly in Heat 5 but never got involved in the contest.

Then in the next heat Droopys Smasher was all the rage in the market, but first bend trouble decided her fate in the Derby. Sonic (29.44) landed a nice touch in Heat 7 so we gave a little back. In the final heat on Thursday night it was all one way traffic, the only dog they wanted in the race was the David Flanagan trained Doctor Zhivago. The race was decided at trap rise when Trap 6 Coconut Corker took an absolute flyer and led all. In fairness Zhivago ran a brave race to keep on for second. The bookies just came out on top!

Saturday Night Shocks
It was fantastic to see the huge crowd in HQ on Saturday night, the atmosphere was electric which really made the night. Lenson Rocky took the opening heat on Saturday night which got the majority of accumulators off to a good start but the run ended very quickly! Priceless Brandy was turned over in Heat 10, Hovex Blaze was a well beaten jolly in Heat 11 which was won by Droopys Ford.

Swords Ace landed a nice touch for connections in Heat 12 when he over turned last year’s winner Ballymac Matt with a fast away always led performance. The best result of the night for the firm came in Heat 13 when the John Boyle owned BoyleSports Jet got up in the final stride to beat the fancied pair of Farloe Rumble and Escapism.

It was a good round for the boss as he saw his two runners both qualify for the 3rd round.""

Burgess Popeye was a bad result for us in Heat 14. Shrewd money was on early on Saturday morning. The last two heats were pure disasters for favourite backers. Cahir Castle was backed like defeat was out of the question in Heat 15 while in the final heat I couldn’t see the book getting a result with Droopys Roddick and Skywalker Rory going head to head.

There was a huge shock as Trap 6 Combo Sidney led all. Skywalker Rory safely made it through in second but the big shock was the elimination of Droopys Roddick from the Derby. All didn’t look well with him down the far side so let’s hope the injury isn’t too bad.

Third Round Draw
The draw for the third round has thrown up some tasty clashes. Skywalker Rory v Lenson Rocky and Highview Event looks the pick of the heats. Sonic in the last heat looks banker material on the draw. New ante-post jolly Laughil Duke will need to be on his toes in Heat 6.

I’d like to see him closer to the fence but he still should be good enough to grind out the win. All of the 3rd round heats are priced up and available along with plenty of specials. All can be viewed online or call into any of our shops nationwide. #BringItOn
