2026 Houston Texas Open Preview
Scheffler's Absence
Lee looking to capitalise on Scheffler absence
Min Woo Lee will look to take advantage of the late withdrawal of world number one Scottie Scheffler and become the first man in over 20 years to win back-to-back Houston Open titles this weekend.
Scheffler had been the 10/3 overwhelming favourite with BOYLE Sports to claim victory at Memorial Park, having been runner-up here in 2022, 2024 and 2025, as well as finishing in the top 10 in 2023.
However, the Dallas resident will not be involved as the Tour moves from Florida to his adopted home state of Texas after pulling out on Tuesday due to ‘family reasons’, with the Schefflers expecting their second child.
The four-time major winner was one of only two players in the world’s top 15 scheduled to take part and his absence has opened the door to the likes of defending champion Lee to take centre stage.
Singh Success For Lee?
Lee looking to emulate Singh success
Last year, Lee shot a final-day 67 to hold off the charging Scheffler (63) and Gary Woodland (62) in a dramatic finish to claim his maiden PGA Tour win and he is the new favourite to come out on top this year too.
The in-form Australian, whose last four tournaments have included T2, T12 and T6 finishes, is now 11/1 to become the first player since Vijay Singh in 2005 to win consecutive Houston Opens.
The tournament also includes the 2023 and 2024 Houston Open champions and, even without the world’s top player, the $9.9million event should be eagerly contested with a number of big names still to secure spots at next month’s Masters - including Nicolai Hojgaard, Rickie Fowler and Tony Finau.
Lee’s closest challenger in the betting is world number 10 Chris Gotterup - now the highest-ranked player in action - who has seen his odds trimmed to 14/1 as he bids to record his third win of the year.
Koepka's Chances
Koepka on course to end title wait?
Jake Knapp has come in to 16/1 with five-time major champion Brooks Koepka 18/1 to win his first PGA title since returning from a four-year stint with LIV Golf.
Brooks should know Memorial Park as well as anybody - he was an advisor for the course’s $34million renovation in 2019 - and the former world number one heads to Houston on the back of three top-20 finishes in Florida so should be one to watch.
Germany’s Stephan Jaeger is 45/1 to repeat his Houston Open 2024 success while Finau, winner here in 2023 and joint runner-up in 2024, is 45/1.
Finau, a former top-20 staple who has dropped down to 104th in the rankings, needs to win in Houston or he will fail qualify for the Masters for the first time since 2017.
Among the other possible contenders this week, 2023 Ryder Cup winner Hojgaard is 20/1, the same as Sam Burns.
England’s Marco Penge, who finished fourth at the Valspar Championship on Sunday, is 22/1 along with Fowler, Kurt Kitayama and Michael Thorbjornsen.
