McIlroy tipped for title
McIlroy looking to shine again at Renaissance
Rory McIlroy’s affinity for The Renaissance Club should put him in good stead to win only his second title of 2026 as the world’s elite descend on North Berwick for the Scottish Open . McIlroy has had a mixed season, retaining his Masters crown in April while claiming joint seventh at the PGA Championship and second at the Genesis Invitational , but otherwise failing to record any other top-10 finishes.
His last two tournaments have seen him finish well off the pace at the Memorial and US Open , but history suggests the European ace will be back in the title mix as the game's top stars head to Britain for the Scottish Open and Open , where McIlroy's knowledge of links play could be key. In his three visits to The Renaissance Club , McIlroy won the Scottish Open in 2023, finished third in 2024 and runner-up last year, two shots behind Chris Gotterup , and all 12 of his rounds have been at 68 or better.
The Northern Irishman is 15/2 to get his hands on the trophy again this week and is our tip for the title, with world number one Scottie Scheffler favourite at 9/2 and Spain’s Jon Rahm just behind at 10/1.
Gotterup chasing history
The Contenders
If you fancy greater odds then Gotterup is definitely one to consider at 18/1 as he seeks to become the first player to successfully defend his Scottish Open title. The 26-year-old American crosses the Atlantic fresh from a stunning win at the John Deere Classic on Sunday, overturning a five-shot deficit thanks to a final-day 62.
That was Gotterup’s third title of 2026 - more than doubling his total of career wins - and he has only missed the cut once in 17 events. He said after his latest win: “This whole year has been really good, if you look at it in a big picture. I obviously got off to a great start and was grinding it out in the middle of the year, but that's not unexpected. Hopefully this kick-starts some other great stuff.”
MacIntyre carries home hopes again as Clark rides hot streak
We can expect Scheffler to be up there again on the Firth of Forth as he fine-tunes preparations for his upcoming Open title defence at Birkdale . Scheffler has not tasted victory since the American Express at the start of the year, but he has eight other top-five finishes in 2026 - including four as runner-up - and it is only a matter of time before the 30-year-old returns to the winners circle.
Matt Fitzpatrick and Xander Schauffele are both 12/1 this week while red-hot Wyndham Clark (18/1) and home favourite Robert MacIntyre (22/1) are two to watch. Since missing the cut at PGA Championship in May, Clark has won the US Open and CJ Cup Byron Nelson , finished third at the Memorial , fifth at the Travelers and 11th at the Canadian Open , helping him rise to eighth in the world.
MacIntyre has had an inconsistent year, missing the cut three times but also recording three top-four finishes and he was tied for 10th at the Travelers in his last outing. The Scot finished runner-up to McIlroy at the Scottish Open in 2023 before lifting the title in 2024. Odds of 7/2 for a top-10 finish are worth considering in our Scottish Open tips.
