Young the man to beat
Young the man to beat in Detroit
Rising star Jackson Koivun held off the formidable challenge of Scottie Scheffler to claim his maiden PGA Tour title at the weekend but it is Cameron Young who is expected to be the man to beat at the Rocket Classic . In only his third tournament since turning professional, 21-year-old Koivun took the honours at the 3M Open in Minnesota after withstanding a late charge from world number one Scheffler .
The former college star finished three shots clear of Scheffler on 25 under par at TPC Twin Cities and he is 16/1 fourth favourite to double up at this week’s Rocket Classic , which is the penultimate tournament of the PGA Tour regular season . However, whereas Scheffler was the only member of the world’s top 30 taking part at the 3M Open , Koivun must overcome a much wider pool of potential threats to win in Michigan.
Scheffler is absent this week, as are the top British contingent, but there are still four members of the world’s top 10 in action, including number three Young . The 29-year-old American has already picked up two PGA Tour titles in 2026 , at the Players and Cadillac Championship , while he was runner-up in his last outing at The Open .
Young also has a good record in Motor City, finishing second to Tony Finau in 2022 and sixth in 2024, and he is 17/2 favourite to win at a revamped Detroit Golf Club this time around .
Gotterup going for glory again
Gotterup chasing fourth win of season
However, it is Chris Gotterup who is our tip for the title @ 14/1 . The 27-year-old has risen to seventh in the world on the back of wins at the Sony Open, Phoenix Open and John Deere Classic in 2026 - more than doubling his number of career victories - while he had solid links outings at the Scottish Open and The Open , tying for 11th and 18th respectively.
Xander Schauffele is also 14/1 but not in the greatest form as he chases his first victory since last October’s Baycurrent Classic . The two-time major winner is playing at the Detroit Golf Club for the first time and has not finished in the top 10 since the PGA Championship in mid-May, with his trip across the Atlantic resulting in a missed cut at the Scottish Open and a tie for 18th at The Open.
Of the other contenders, Si Woo Kim (16/1) is in his best form of the season, finishing ninth and sixth in the two British events, while Wyndham Clark (18/1) and Russell Henley (20/1) - ranked ninth and fifth in the world respectively - will also expect to mount a challenge.
Defending champion Potgieter is a 60/1 outsider to retain the title he won as a 20-year-old last year.
