Course Profile
Aronimink Course Insights
Aronimink Golf Club is widely regarded as Donald Ross's masterpiece. The 1928 layout rewards precision over power, with rolling fairways, strategic bunkering and classic crowned green complexes that demand thoughtful shot-making at every turn. At 7,394 yards and par 70, it is not among the longest major venues, but with 176 bunkers, fescue rough approaching four inches, and only two par-5s, any length advantage is significantly muted.
Approach play is the standout predictive metric here. Ross designed many of the par-4s to encourage conservative tee shots into wider portions of the fairway, but those safer lines frequently leave mid and long-iron approaches from uneven stances into severely contoured greens.
As Aronimink's head professional Jeff Kiddie puts it: "It's going to be somebody's creativity around the greens, the ability to get up and down, that will be the critical part. You're going to miss greens, and it's the scrambling ability that will be important".
The ideal Aronimink profile is a well-rounded player with elite iron play, a sharp short game and strong course management. Winners here have rarely been the longest hitter in the field. The back nine is the sternest test, with holes 10 through 12 expected to play among the most demanding of the week, and the uphill par-4 18th providing a final examination that has defined championships before.
PGA Championship Tips
Scheffler To Defend His Crown?
Scheffler Favourite To Retain PGA Championship Crown
Scottie Scheffler will seek to continue home domination of the PGA Championship when the defending champion takes on a star-studded field at Aronimink in the year's second major.
The world number one's commanding victory at Quail Hollow 12 months ago, finishing five shots clear of the chasing pack, saw him become the 10th successive American winner of the PGA Championship.
Brooks Koepka (3), Justin Thomas (2), Jimmy Walker , Collin Morikawa , Phil Mickelson , Xander Schauffele and Scheffler have all lifted the Wanamaker Trophy since the last overseas champion, which was Australia's Jason Day in 2015.
Scheffler is 4/1 outright favourite with BOYLE Sports this week and although he has not won a tournament since January's American Express in his first outing of the year, the 29-year-old looks primed for success in Philadelphia.
He has finished second in his last three tournaments, at the Masters, RBC Heritage and Cadillac Championship, and has climbed up to second in the FedExCup standings, just behind Cameron Young.
Scheffler also leads the way in a host of Tour metrics in 2026, including scoring average, birdie average and greens in regulation percentage.
The Chasing Pack
USA Hopefuls Looking To Continue Domestic Dominance
So who can stop Scheffler from winning his fifth major title?
Well, if you fancy another home-grown champion — the top four last year were all American — then you have plenty of good options.
Young is the obvious choice and he is 10/1 to break his major duck. The 29-year-old has finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven tournaments, a run which has included victories at the Players and Cadillac.
He was also in contention to win the Truist Championship at the weekend after a brilliant third-round 63 left him two shots off the lead, only to see his challenge vanish as a disappointing final-day 74 left him six shots adrift of maiden Tour winner Kristoffer Reitan of Norway.
Of the other American contenders, former champions Schauffele ( 14/1 ), Koepka ( 28/1 ) and Morikawa ( 30/1 ) will hope to be in the fight, as will LIV Golfer Bryson DeChambeau ( 18/1 ), who has two runner-up finishes and two T4s in his last five PGA Championship appearances.
European Challengers
In-Form Europeans Queueing Up To Conquer Aronimink
If you fancy a non-American victor then there are lots of viable candidates there too, with Rory McIlroy , Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick , Tommy Fleetwood , Justin Rose , Ludvig Aberg and Jon Rahm all providing compelling cases.
World number two McIlroy is second favourite at 8/1 to add to his 2012 and 2014 PGA Championship victories and, having won the Masters, he could be targeting a calendar Grand Slam in 2026.
The Northern Irishman could only finish tied for 19th at the Truist after being sunk by a third-round 75 but his experience of Aronimink could stand him in good stead, having finished fifth in the 2018 BMW Championship there, shooting a course-record 62 in the opening round.
McIlroy also had a single practice round at Aronimink during his month-long break from competition following his Masters win.
He said at the weekend: "It was good to get — we played the BMW there in 2018, but the course played a lot differently. It was wet in 2018 and the greens didn't play as fast or as severe as what I felt like they played last week when I played.
"It's not a long golf course, but the big defence is the greens and they can tuck the pins away if they want to. But yeah it was nice to get an early look at it.
"It just means that the week of the tournament you're not under pressure to play a lot of holes and historically the practice rounds at the PGA can be excruciatingly long."
Rose was second in the 2018 BMW, losing a play-off to Keegan Bradley , and he also won the 2011 AT&T National at Aronimink. The evergreen Englishman is 35/1 to end his 13-year wait to win a second major title.
Of the other English hopefuls, in-form brothers Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick are 16/1 and 70/1 respectively, while Tommy Fleetwood is 22/1 .
Spain's Rahm is 12/1 as he jets in from LIV Golf to challenge for his third major title while Sweden's Aberg , with top-10s in five of his last six events, is 14/1 for victory.
