Scheffler eyeing Memorial hat-trick
Scottie Scheffler is still waiting to add to his solitary victory in 2026 but that could be about to change as the world number one tees up at one of his favourite hunting grounds. Scheffler is the two-time reigning champion at the Memorial Tournament and could well have been celebrating victory in 2023 as well but for a poor start at Muirfield Village .
He scraped into the weekend on that occasion, making the cut on the line, but then played his final 36 holes in nine under par and was the clubhouse leader at one point. In the end he finished one shot adrift as the tournament went to a play-off, Viktor Hovland beating Denny McCarthy , but Scheffler showed what he could do and then built on that with back-to-back victories in 2024 and 2025.
Scheffler’s only win so far this year came at the American Express in January but the 29-year-old is nevertheless in fine form and, despite his lack of silverware, tops the FedExCup standings. In his past five tournaments Scheffler has finished runner-up at the Masters, RBC Heritage and Cadillac Championship as well as third in his most recent outing at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson a fortnight ago.
Overall, he has seven top-fives finishes in his 11 tournaments this season and ranks in the top 15 of every Strokes Gained metric in 2026, and he is 14/5 clear favourite with BOYLE Sports to end his title wait this week.
Can returning McIlroy master Augusta of the North?
The Contenders
Scheffler faces some stiff competition with world number two Rory McIlroy returning to action, along with the likes of Cameron Young , Xander Schauffele and Matt Fitzpatrick . McIlroy sat out last year’s Memorial but has a reasonable record at Muirfield Village, with five top-10 finishes from his 13 visits to ‘Jack’s Place’, although he has never been higher than fourth.
The Northern Irishman, available at 8/1 , has only played seven PGA tournaments in 2026 and had mixed returns. He famously retained his Masters title in April but otherwise has only two top-10 paydays this year, with one of them being his T7 at the PGA Championship three weeks ago - his last outing.
McIIroy’s Ryder Cup team-mate Ludvig Aberg is third favourite this week at 11/1. The Swede won the most recent of his two PGA titles well over a year ago but he finished fifth on his Muirfield debut in 2024 and has been in impressive form over the last three months. In his last eight tournaments he has claimed five top-five finishes and would have been in contention again at the Charles Schwab Challenge (T17) last time out but for a disappointing final-day 71.
Behind the top three favourites is a group of players who will all be hoping to in contention in a high-class field. Young (12/1) is second in the FedExCup standings while Russell Henley (14/1) is fresh off victory at his stunning victory at the Charles Schwab, where he beat Eric Cole in a play-off after finishing with four successive birdies.
South Korean Kim Si-woo (14/1) has a career-best seven top-10 finishes in 2026, although none of them have resulted in victory, while world number four Fitzpatrick (16/1) is chasing a fourth title of the season.
