Chacarra targets Race to Dubai
Chacarra looking to emulate heroes as Race to Dubai reaches climax
Eugenio Chacarra heads to South Korea for the final event of the DP World Tour regular season with his sights set on next month becoming only the third Spaniard to lift the Harry Vardon Trophy , awarded to the winner of the Race to Dubai . The 26-year-old ‘s two-shot victory at the DP World India Championship on Sunday saw him replace long-term leader Patrick Reed at the top of the standings, with Rory McIlroy dropping to third.
Chacarra is now looking to follow in the illustrious footsteps of compatriots Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm by finishing the year at the top of the pile in the UAE next month. Ballesteros was a six-time winner of what was previously known as the European Tour’s Order of Merit , leaving him behind only Colin Montgomerie and McIlroy for most victories, while Rahm won the season-long race in 2019.
Chacarra, who has finished third, second and first in his last three starts , said: "It would mean the world. Those two guys are heroes for me as a Spanish golfer. Hopefully I can put my name on that trophy too. I know it's not going to be easy. Rory in Dubai always plays well and I know it's going to be a big battle. Patrick too. Two of the best players in the world are coming for me now, I know they're not going to make it easy."
Kim and Im favourites
Duo favourites to continue home domination in Korea
With Reed and McIlroy sitting out this week's Genesis Championships in Korea, which is the final tournament before the end-of-season play-off events in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Chacarra has the chance to extend his healthy 618-point lead over the American. The Madrid-born golfer is 17/2 to claim his fourth victory of 2026 this week , and he is our tip for the title, but it is Si Woo Kim and Sungjae Im who are favourites to continue home domination in the tournament.
Korean players have won all nine editions of this event , with Byeong Hun An (2024) and Junghwan Lee (2025) taking the honours since the new-look Genesis Championship was launched two years ago following a merger between DP World Tour and KPGA Tour events . World number 14 Kim is the highest-ranked player involved at Woo Jeong Hills Country Club and the 31-year-old is 13/2 to claim victory this weekend.
Kim has never won a tournament in his homeland or a DP World Tour event but he has claimed four PGA Tour titles , including the 2017 PLAYERS Championship. Im, meanwhile , has tasted victory in Korea. He won the Genesis Championship in 2019 when it was played at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club in Incheon, and he is second-favourite @ 17/2 .
Defending champion Lee is a 150/1 outsider to retain his crown, with the other main contenders coming in the form of India Championship runner-up Daniel Hillier (16/1), Jacob Skov Olesen (20/1) and Open winner Ryan Fox (25/1). South Africa’s Casey Jarvis , who could climb from fourth to second in the Race to Dubai standings this week, is 20/1.
