Scheffler Leads Local Challenge
Scheffler Leads Local Challenge In Texas
Scottie Scheffler may not have been able to maintain his challenge at the PGA Championship but it should be a different story for the world number one at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
Scheffler started well at Aronimink but ended up having to settle for a share of 14th in the year's second major, seven shots behind surprise winner Aaron Rai on Sunday as the Englishman won his maiden major title.
The Tour now returns from Pennsylvania to Texas for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson — once known as the Dallas Open — and local resident Scheffler is an overwhelming 13/8 favourite with BOYLE Sports to win his second title of 2026.
The 29-year-old, who lives in Dallas, is the reigning champion at TPC Craig Ranch after a stunning wire-to-wire victory last May when he finished eight shots clear after rounds of 61-63-66-63.
His 31-under-par aggregate total of 253 tied the lowest 72-hole total on the Tour since 1983 and proved the catalyst for a remarkable end to the year for the American.
Scheffler was without a victory in 2025 heading into the CJ Cup Byron Nelson but, after his crushing win, he would go on to end the year with six titles, including major victories at the PGA Championship and Open, as well as earning 16 successive top-10 finishes.
Scheffler would love for something similar to happen this year, having not tasted victory since his opening tournament of 2026, and the lack of big-name competition in McKinney should theoretically aid his cause and that is our main CJ Cup Byron Nelson prediction.
Spieth To End Slump At Home?
Former World Number Ones Seeking To End Barren Run
With Rai pulling out after his PGA Championship triumph, Scheffler is now one of only three players taking part who are ranked in the world's top 50, the others being number 24 Kim Si-woo and Dallas-born Jordan Spieth , who is 47th.
South Korean Kim, who also lives in Dallas, looks to be one of the major threats to Scheffler and is 10/1 to claim victory. He finished runner-up in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in 2023 and has four top-five finishes in 2026, leaving him ninth in the FedEx Cup rankings.
Spieth, meanwhile, will be hoping familiar surroundings will help him end his four-year title drought.
He made his PGA Tour debut in this tournament as a 16-year-old in 2010, making headlines after finishing 16th while still an amateur, and this will be his 14th appearance in the event, ending fourth last year.
The ex-world number one and three-time major winner is 11/1 in our CJ Cup Byron Nelson tips as he looks to win his first tournament since the RBC Heritage in 2022.
Another former top-ranked American looking to rediscover past glories is Brooks Koepka .
The 36-year-old is a five-time major champion but has not won on the PGA Tour since lifting his third PGA Championship in 2023, having committed to LIV Golf.
Koepka, who was runner-up in 2016, is 18/1 for victory this week, while Keith Mitchell ( 22/1 ) completes the top five favourites at the newly-renovated TPC Craig Ranch.
