Saturday’s Group 2 Temple Stakes at Haydock Park (3.45) is without doubt the hottest sprint of the season to date, and one that features three of the last five winners in Hot Streak and Kingsgate Native (twice).
Hot On Winning Streak?
It’s a line-up that certainly whets the appetite, and punters have opted for the former of that aforementioned pair in Hot Streak (5/1), who showed he was peaking again when a 3l third in a French Group 3 a few weeks ago (5f, good to soft), and looks sure to put in a solid effort.
As for the dual Temple winner, Kingsgate Native (14/1), he showed he was no back number when staying on to finish just over 2l behind Goldream (11/2) at HQ, and having finished third in last year’s renewal, looks good each-way value.
Cowell’s Golden Dream
Robert Cowell’s, Goldream, graduated through the handicap ranks last season, prior to making a winning return in Group 3 company at Newmarket three weeks ago (5f, good to firm).

G Is Force At Haydock
Also at the right end of the market is David O’Meara’s, G Force (13/2), who makes his reappearance having won the Group 1 Sprint Cup over 6f here last autumn (good). Whether 5f on his first outing for 217 days proves too sharp remains to be seen, but this improving 4yo still looks set for a good year.
Another 4yo on the up is Michael Appleby’s, Danzeno (7/1), a Group 3 winner last summer (6f, good to firm), who nearly added another when beaten a heads at Ascot in October. As with G Force, though, there is a slight concern that his debut over the minimum trip on drying ground may just catch out Danzeno on his first outing for 231 days.
Take Cover (10/1) also makes his return, but will have no trouble over this trip, having won a group 2 over it at Goodwood last summer (good to firm). This 8yo can go well fresh, and it will be interesting to see what the market says on Saturday.
Stack Has Great Mind
Elsewhere, Tommy Stack has the improving 5yo, Great Minds (12/1), a winner of two Listed sprints this spring (both soft), who takes a step up in class here, while Godolphin’s, Pretend (7/1), will be out to show whether he can repeat his progressive form from the all-weather this winter.
