Speaking exclusively with BOYLE Sports , former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi has admitted that even if his former club win in the Manchester Derby if that can’t be followed by consistent improvement.
The United States-born former Italy international has also explained why Isak was not worth £130million in the transfer market and the differences between both his former Premier League clubs.
Rossi also gave his thoughts on if John O’Shea could manage Ireland, if Gattuso suits Italy and argues Kane should abandon NFL dream!
Manchester Derby
United Beating City Means Nothing In The Long Run
That would be great. But remember, it's a long-term play, not a short-term one. Just because we hopefully beat City doesn't mean we're back. I think we beat them last year, right? So it doesn't mean anything in the long run.
It's good for the short term, good for the soul and two hours after. But then you go out and play against some other team that's in the lower portions of the Premier League, lose, and now you're back to zero.
So there has to be a certain type of continuity when it comes to the way we play, our emotions, and the way that we're able to adapt to each team that comes after us. All this stuff comes from the work that needs to be done, that needs to be found, because I don't think it's there.
It needs to be found, and it takes time. It takes time. So I know that a coach is doing so. I have faith that he will find that. And hopefully, we're here talking in May, and we've found a new type of Manchester United.
Alexander Isak
Isak Is Not Worth £130 Million!
That's football today. It kind of sucks that it got to the point where players have the power to do this. If I ever did that back in the day, I would have gotten my backside kicked. Nobody would have seen that as a good thing, morally or as a person.
It's crazy h times have changed, how certain behaviours are accepted in today's world just because you have certain price tags connected to your name. That's another story on how these price tags started going crazy. Is Alexander Isak really worth £130million? No, he's not.
He had a great season last year, that's good, but he's not worth £130million. There are only a few players in history that are worth that. I'm thinking three at their peak: Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Neymar. Maybe Kylian Mbappe.
Why? Because of their marketability as well, not only their style of play. Regardless of that, these numbers being thrown around are crazy. You're having what was that, and when will he was worth right? He was paid for how much Bryan Mbeumo cost United? £70million?
Yeah, it's crazy. With all due respect, what have you proven at the highest level? So, Rasmus Holjund for £70million. What have you proven to have that price tag?
These are things that are crazy, and which leads to directors and coaches forgetting about the morality, the integrity of the game and therefore are only focused on price tags and money, which runs the world. So I guess people like me, that have an old-school mentality, have to adapt, and that's what I'm trying to do, but it's hard to do that.
Man United vs Newcastle
The Difference: Man United vs Newcastle
It was different. It was something that, if you take a look at Manchester United in my heyday, it was the Manchester United. They had Sir Alex Ferguson; you had all the great figures playing the game. God forbid that I did something wrong, they would put you in line.
They would make you understand the Manchester United culture. I was a young player, debuted young, scored goals, had success, which was great, but I was still a young player.
I was not the player that started having an ego where the clubs or the coaches would back me up. No, there was a certain way that young players needed to be treated in order to earn the respect of the first-team players, which is totally different today because now it's the young players, the man, respect from the elders. It's totally different.
The world has totally changed. So that is how you create culture. That is how you create a winning habit. You didn't need to have all the superstars to win at Manchester United. So that's how that Manchester United was.
I hope that we're able to find that again. Also, Newcastle at that time was a struggling club. It hadn't won anything. Fans were just fantastic and found a lot of patience with us. I learned about that fanbase. I'm so happy that they won last year and that they were able to celebrate because they definitely deserved it. So it was great to see them enjoy that moment. So hopefully they're able to feel that again.
Now you have a club that is investing big time in players and has a chance to stay up top for a very long time. So I'm interested in how they found themselves another rival to fight for those top spaces now.
John O'Shea
Could John O’Shea Manage Ireland?
I'm happy for him. He's a great guy. John O’Shea was a great guy, a very nice dude. I always hold him in high regard. He was a team player. You could put him anywhere, and he would do the job.
Was he the best right back, the best centre back, or the best midfielder? No. But he is someone who is vital to a team for the energy he brings to training and his willingness to sacrifice anything for the team. That's something I learned from him, and something I really admire about him. So, on the field, great off the field, a tremendous guy. I wish him nothing but the best.
Harry Kane
Kane Should Abandon NFL Dream!
Listen, there's one piece of advice I'm going to give Harry Kane: Don't do it. You just need to get hit once, and you're done. I actually had this debate with two ex-NFL players. I was telling them I could easily play in the NFL.
He said, ‘You don't want to get hit by these guys; these guys are monsters.’ I took a quick look at them and thought, ‘You know what?’ You're probably right. Who the hell wants to get hit?"
Hopefully, he retires at 40 years old because I love watching him play. He retires at 40 years old, and he can kick, but sometimes a kicker does get hit, and you don't want that to happen. So, I hope he stays to play his football, scores a million goals and enjoys himself.
Italian International Team
Gattuso Is Perfect For The Italian National Team
He's the right man at the right time. I think having somebody like Gattuso – I've known him for a while; I played with him as well. I got a glimpse of the last couple of years on the national team when I was there with him, of his work ethic, his tenacity, and the way that he goes about his work, how much he cares about it. It's all so inspiring, so motivational that you never want to let this guy down. So having a figure like him as a coach, I think that's what these players are seeing and feeling. When I'm on the field, I don't want to let this guy down.
I'm going to give it my all because that's what he did. That's what he still does as a coach, and therefore I want to live up to his expectations. As a national team coach, you need somebody like that rather than somebody that's teaching you the X's and O's. There's no time to teach the X's and O's, the tactical work, all that. There's an idea of how things should be done and played.
You have to be good enough as a coach to express that. But it's more of a psychological work rather than a tactical work when you're at a national team. So I think he is doing that. I think we've seen these past two games against Estonia and Israel, which was ridiculous, but he showed that – the team showed that – they're willing to do anything for the result.
And as many people say, four goals were scored against us by Israel. I don't care. We got the three points. It just shows, let's take the positive out of it, which was the grit, which was the never-give-up mentality, which kind of reflects exactly what Gattuso was and still is.
