The six finalists for the 2021 Easter Cup have been confirmed and it’s ladies first as Billys Diva is the firm favourite to land the spectacular prize of €25,000 for her connections.
This daughter of Good News – Jaytee Sahara was simply stunning when winning the opening semi-final on Saturday night at Shelbourne Park, clocking a very impressive 29.50 from trap one.
This talented lady took a flier from the boxes and it was all over once she hit the front.
Great Name That for trainer Liam Dowling ran a terrific race in second place, trying his best to close the gap but Billys was two lengths too good when the finish line arrived.
Beach Avenue impressed yet again showing huge pace to claim third spot which seen him go by Newinn Session with ease on the home stretch. Beach Avenue is 33/1 to win the Easter Cup for Paul Hennessy, who has two finalists.
Hennessy’s other runner is Boylesportsbingo who has been in fine form of late and ran one his best races on Saturday night to finish second to Knocknaboul Syd in a winning time of 29.53.
Bingo has been running against the best for some time now having finished second to Broadstrand Bono in the 2019 Juvenile Derby. His odds have tumbled gradually into 20/1 from 100/1 over the last few weeks as he continued to qualify against the best dogs in racing.
Not much separates Knocknaboul Syd and Billys Diva on the clock but the Pat Buckley trained speedster was magical from boxes and his early speed enabled him to open up a lovely lead.
Syd went on to win by seven lengths and is 9/4 from 4/1 to win the Easter Cup. Golden Tiger qualified in third spot for last year’s winning trainer Graham Holland and is not without a chance as decent odds of 7/1. This bright prospect was as big as 66/1 over a week ago and is one to watch out for in the coming months.
