Jury Out On Dáil Seat For ‘The Monk’

The latest odds at BOYLE Sports suggest Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch faces an uphill battle to win a seat in the Dublin Central by-election.

Hutch narrowly missed out in the constituency in last year’s general election, with the final of four seats going the way of Labour’s Marie Sherlock. But the notorious gangland figure looks set to launch another bid for political office after Paschal Donohoe’s resignation as Finance Minister.

Odds of 6/1 mean Hutch is only third in the betting to take the seat, with Séamas McGrattan an odds-on favourite at 8/11 to join 2024 poll-topper Mary Lou McDonald and win a second seat in the constituency for Sinn Féin. Social Democrat Daniel Ennis is rated 6/5 second favourite.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:

“It’s shaping up to be a tough battle for Gerry Hutch, with the early money keeping him at arm’s length from the top of the market. Punters seem confident Sinn Féin is in the strongest position, and they remain clear favourites at this stage.”
