Galway Races Friday Tips

The Ross O’Sullivan-trained Volantis is one of the best-backed horses of the day according to the latest odds at BoyleSports. The gelding has seen his odds slashed into 7/2 from 15/2 in Friday’s opener at Galway.

The six-year-old hasn’t raced over hurdles since just being denied in the same race last year, but a recent run on the flat at Roscommon could have him primed to keep his trainer’s perfect record at this year’s meeting intact.

O’Sullivan has fielded just three runners at Galway across the opening five days of the seven-day betting bonanza, with Talk In The Park (7/1), Champella (10/1) and Donnie Devito (11/1) all obliging for a 1,055/1 treble.

The Kill-based operation is set to have one runner a day for the three remaining fixtures at Galway, two of which are owned by the Downtown Syndicate, who are already on the scoresheet this week with Talk In The Park.

The syndicate, which is local to Galway, includes prominent publicans the Munroe family and Mayor of Galway City Peter Keane, with Volantis (17:00 Friday) and Bythesametoken (13:50 Sunday) set to carry their silks and build on what is already a memorable week.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said:

“Ross O’Sullivan’s horses are clearly in flying form, and with a small but select team over the remaining three days of the Galway Races, punters are keen to latch onto the Kill man keeping his fine record going.”
