Kilcruit's last outing on Irish soil was a sensational performance in the EMS Copiers Novice Handicap Chase in April. On that occasion he beat the fourteen-horse field by 14 lengths over the two-mile five-furlong trip which resulted in a 12lb rise in the weights to 167.
Last time out however he finished a disappointing 11/15 in Auteuil finishing forty-three lengths back of Theleme for the three-and-a-half-mile trip.
This poor line of form including a last-place finish in Punchestown back in April has led to a more attractive handicap mark of 155. As a result traders and punters now fancy Fury Road to come close to its first victory since November 2022.
These odds suggest that traders expect Hewick to go close again in 2023 to retain his Galway Plate title despite carrying top weight at 167.
Last time out however he finished a disappointing 4/15 in Auteuil, 14.5 lengths back of Theleme over the three-and-a-half-mile trip. Before that race Hewick won in Sandown back in April over a two-mile six-and-a-half-furlong trip where he beat the six-horse-field by 4 lengths.
Last time out Hollow Games finished 4/14 being beaten 11.5 lengths back from Dinoblue in Punchestown back in April. Prior to that Hollow Games was pulled up at Cheltenham for the Arkle Chase. However the 7-year-old remains handicapped well for this race which is a big reason for his status as one of the favourites for this big race.
Last time out the horse finished 3/14 being beaten just 1 length by Glan in Roscommon earlier in the month over the one-mile three-and-a-half-furlong trip. Before that run the horse came 2/5 where he was beaten by a neck in Punchestown back in June over the two-mile four-furlong trip and looks well placed to win this race.
