Galatasaray v Liverpool prediction, betting tips & odds

Champions League Ball 2526

Both Galatasaray and Liverpool head into Tuesday’s clash in Istanbul with something of a point to prove.

Gala have been untouchable domestically this season but started their Champions League campaign with a 5-1 drubbing at Eintracht Frankfurt, while Liverpool saw their 100 per cent start to the campaign dramatically ended on Saturday by a last-gasp loss at Crystal Palace.

We think they will find a response, but it will not be easy, and we’re going for a Liverpool win with both teams to score at 15/8.

Mohamed Salah will become the first African player to reach 50 Champions League goals if he scores a brace in this match, and he is 9/2 to achieve that.

Head To Head

Galatasaray vs Liverpool head-to-head record

There is little to separate the teams from their four previous meetings, with one win each and two draws.

They first met in the 2002-03 Champions League second group stage when a 1-1 draw in Turkey was followed by a 0-0 stalemate at Anfield, helping Liverpool progress to the quarter-finals.

In the 2006-07 group stage, the home team claimed a 3-2 win on each occasion. Liverpool would end up going on to reach the final, losing 2-1 to AC Milan.

Form Guide

Galatasaray Form

Galatasaray Form

Gala could hardly have asked for a better start to their bid for a fourth successive Super Lig title.

They have 21 points out of 21, scoring 19 goals and conceding just twice, and are already six points clear of nearest challengers Fenerbahce.

Mauro Icardi has scored in five of his seven appearances and can be backed at 7/1 to open the scoring against a Reds defence that has only kept two clean sheets this season.

Gala's heavy Champions League defeat at free-scoring Frankfurt left them without a win in their last seven UEFA matches, but they are a different proposition in Istanbul, losing only three of their last 18 on home soil and just one of their last eight home matches against English teams.

If you fancy Galatasaray to inflict a second defeat in four days on Arne Slot’s men, you can get odds of 13/2 for a 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 win.

Liverpool Form

Liverpool Form

Liverpool head to the city where they recorded one of the most famous comebacks in European history - the 2005 ‘Miracle of Istanbul’ Champions League final win over AC Milan - having seen their Premier League lead cut to two points at the weekend.

Saturday’s 2-1 defeat brought an end to Liverpool’s seven-match winning streak and saw the tables turned on the previously fast-finishing Reds.

Bournemouth, Newcastle, Arsenal, Burnley, Atletico Madrid and Southampton had all been beaten by late Liverpool goals this term, but after Federico Chiesa's 87th-minute equaliser at Selhurst Park, the Premier League champions were on the receiving end this time as Eddie Nketiah struck deep into stoppage time.

They are going to need their battling qualities in a potentially tricky run of fixtures against Gala, Chelsea, Manchester United and Eintracht Frankfurt.

A point would not be a bad return from the Rams Park cauldron, and you can get 15/4 for a score draw, although Liverpool will be targeting a 14th win from their last 15 Champions League group/league stage matches.
