There has been a significant early move in the betting on who will take charge of Galway’s senior footballers following Pádraic Joyce’s departure from his role after seven years at the helm.
Joyce leaves having guided the Tribesmen to two All-Ireland finals, although Galway ultimately fell short on both occasions.
There is little to separate the leading contenders in the early betting, with Kevin O’Brien and Kevin Johnson joint favourites at 7/2 with BOYLE Sports. O’Brien boasts an impressive pedigree from his time in charge of Corofin, where he guided the Galway club to three successive All-Ireland titles. Current Galway Under-20s boss Johnson has also enjoyed success on the club scene with county titles at Corofin, Ballintubber and Tourlestrane.
However, the biggest market move so far has come from Mark McHugh, who has rocketed into contention at 5/1 from 25/1 having guided Westmeath to victory in the Leinster SFC last season.
