Punters believe Dublin face uphill battle
Louth are coming in for strong support to successfully defend their status as Leinster champions, with Gavin Devlin’s side now joint favourites alongside Dublin at 11/8 according to the latest odds at BOYLE Sports.
The Wee County bridged a big gap between provincial titles when landing their first Leinster crown since 1957 last season, and punters are backing them to make it two-in-a-row after a commanding victory over Wexford at Dr Cullen Park secured their place in the semi-finals.
Standing in their way are Dublin, who booked their own semi-final spot with a hard-fought win over Wicklow in Aughrim. The Garden County pushed the 31-time All-Ireland champions all the way, trailing by just two points at the final whistle and coming close to a major upset.
Kildare (11/2) take on Westmeath (13/2) in the other Leinster semi-final after respective victories over Laois and Meath.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“There’s a growing feeling among bettors that Dublin have a serious challenge on their hands if they’re to re-establish themselves as contenders for the Sam Maguire this season. Louth are the best-backed team in the Leinster again, and it’s clear punters believe last season was no fluke.”
Kerry, who face Clare in the Munster semi-finals this weekend, remain 6/4 favourites for the All-Ireland ahead of 5/2 Donegal, who host Down in an Ulster quarter-final in Letterkenny on Sunday.
