Late late show triggers Louth support
Louth’s chances of a remarkable All-Ireland victory have been slashed by the bookies following a dramatic late win that secured the Wee County a place in the quarter-finals for the second time in three seasons.
Trailing by two points as the clock ticked down in Inniskeen, Louth looked set for heartbreak against Armagh before a moment of magic from Sam Mulroy, whose long-range effort deceived goalkeeper Ethan Rafferty and dropped into the net.
The late twist means BOYLE Sports now rate Louth 22/1 shots (from 50/1) to complete a sensational run to Sam Maguire glory, while the defeated Orchardmen are now 5/1 after being pitted against reigning champions Kerry in Monday morning’s Round Three draw.
Donegal have drifted to 5/1 (from 5/2) following a shock defeat to Cork at their Ballybofey base, while Kerry remain the team to beat according to the oddsmakers at 2/1 following an emphatic 3-22 to 0-17 victory over Kildare in Newbridge.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Kerry continue to set the standard, but Louth’s late winner was one of the moments of the championship so far. They may remain amongst outsiders to go all the way, but it hasn’t stopped belief building in the Wee County, and we’ve had to cut their odds accordingly.”
