WATERFORD V TIPPERARY

“Outside of Limerick they’re the one team I’d like to see progress,” Dowling told BoyleSports this week ahead of Sunday’s home match against Tipperary.

?️ "I do think they have to hit a dip at some point in time."

“Any team starved of success for so long, you like to see them come to the table. I hope they haven’t been listening to people like me building them up, because sometimes it can get to you. But I’m sure Liam Cahill is trying his very best to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

“They’ve been flying this year and it’s hard to see anything other than a winning start. They’re coming in with a very settled team. The only thing I will say is that they have to hit a dip at some time. I don’t know when that’s going to come, but Liam Cahill has said he wants to make Walsh Park a difficult place for teams to go and that’ll be the case for Tipperary this weekend.”

“Tipperary have been trying a lot of different players, they’ve got a new management team and they have lost a few lads to injury and retirement over the last 12 months. I think they are about seven or eight points short of Waterford at the moment.”

CORK V LIMERICK

“I hope they will up their game,” Dowling told BoyleSports this week. “But it hasn’t been straightforward with a couple of lads sent off and missing games, injuries and the talk about whether or not Seamus Flanagan will play."

? "They're very unsettled but their experience will see them ready for Sunday...it will be extremely tight."

“The one difference I see with Limerick this year is that every other year they have been good and settled going into the Championship. This year is very unsettled and they won’t really know where they’re at until they take to the field on Sunday. So there is a small bit of the unknown about Limerick this year, but you’d like to think that they’re experienced and they’ll be ready.

“In the All-Ireland final last year, there was so much space in front of the Cork full-back line. Cork stopped that early on in the league, but again in the league final there was a lot of space for the Waterford full-forward line, so I’m disappointed they didn’t learn from their previous final.

"However Cork will have a lot of hurt inside them from the All-Ireland final and they’ve been waiting a long time for this Sunday to come.”
