Dublin legend Diarmuid Connolly believes Kilcoo are on the road to success in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship ahead of their semi-final clash with St. Finbarrs this weekend.

The Down side are odds-on favourites to be crowned All-Ireland champions for the first time and Connolly believes they have the upper hand for Saturday afternoon’s showdown in Portlaoise.

? "They play the same kind of style we played in St. Vincent's when we were successful a couple of years ago."

“Kilcoo have been knocking at the door and they put Derrygonnelly away very easily last time,” Connolly told BoyleSports.

“They are very controlled in the way they play and they got their just rewards in the Ulster final, putting up 3-10 against 0-3 was a landslide.

“They will be pushed further by Cork champions St. Finbarr’s and they ought to be careful because the Cork boys can score too. The pitch in Portlaoise is big though and I think it’ll suit Kilcoo a little bit better, because of the way they control the play.

“They play a style we used to play at St. Vincent’s when we were successful, very attack minded but they’re also very assured in defence.

"They’ll play percentage passes, play the spaces and try to work the ball through. What really impressed me against Derrygonnelly was their shutting down of the kick out, that’s going to be huge for them and St. Finbarr’s will have to come with something to nullify that.”
