Racing’s new Friday Night Live series suffered a false start when Wolverhampton was abandoned last month but hopefully there will be no problems at Newcastle this week.
The final seven races from Gosforth Park will be broadcast live on ITV4 and we’ve picked out our best bets from those contests.
Newcastle Tips – Fright Night Racing on ITV
Newcastle 18:00 – Farandaway
Grant Tuer’s gelding was a good second on his racecourse debut at this track 18 months ago when just outstayed by Oolong Poobong , who went on to run well in much better company.
Although still a maiden after 13 attempts, Farandaway wasn’t beaten far in fourth on his first return to Gosforth Park last month and now looks well treated on a 2lb lower mark.
Newcastle 18:30 – Digital
Ruth Carr does really well with veteran performers and has worked her magic again on this gelding since getting him from Karl Burke a couple of years ago.
Digital already had four wins on his card and has doubled that tally under Carr’s care, most recently making all to score over the same course and distance in an incredibly game manner for an eight-year-old having his 62nd start.
Newcastle 19:00 – Heavenly Heather
Famed for springing a 200-1 surprise on All-Weather Finals Day here last year, Tracey Waggott’s mare has continued to improve and enjoyed more success at this venue in December and January.
That double earned her a crack at a valuable trial for this season’s sprint final but she was caught short of room at a crucial point.
When she eventually got in the clear, Heavenly Heather was spotted making good headway late on behind The Caltonian and can turn the tables on 4lb better terms in this £55,000 feature.
Newcastle 19:30 – Champagne Powder
Tom Marquand’s booking by Oliver Cole catches the eye, with the talented jockey having been in good form of late both in the UK and the Middle East.
Champagne Powder was only beaten a head last time out, having won the race before that, and the fitting of first-time cheekpieces here suggests another big run is anticipated.
Newcastle 20:00 – The Dragon King
After winning a valuable sales race as a juvenile, Clive Cox’s charge looked to have lost his way last year until staying on strongly to score at Wolverhampton .
Connections did not rush him out again, which suggests they feel there is more of his former sparkle still to come back and Newcastle should suit his style of running.
