As we gear up for what promises to be an exciting Euro 2024 we have taken the chance to preview France’s potential route to the European Championship Final.

France are the 4th most successful country in Euro Championship history with their first victory coming at Euro 1984 on home soil when they defeated Spain 2-0 and their second came with a 2-1 golden goal victory over Italy at Euro 2000.

Their most recent journey to the final was at Euro 2016 when they were defeated 1-0 by Portugal after extra time.

France Euro 2024 Odds

France have been handed odds of 7/2 to land Euro 2024. Those odds suggest that the country has a 22.2% chance of success in the tournament which puts them second favourites behind England at odds of 3/1.

How France Qualified For Euro 2024

France qualified for the tournament in emphatic fashion by topping UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group B with an unbeaten record of 7 wins and 1 draw from their 8 games coming against Netherlands, Greece, Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar.

They scored a sensational 29 goals across those qualification games and had a watertight defence with only 3 goals conceded

France’s Euro 2024 Group Odds

France have been drawn in Group D of Euro 2024 with 1988 winners The Netherlands, Austria who reached the Round of 16 at Euro 2020 and Poland who were Quarter-Finalists in 2016.

France Euro 2024 Path to the Final

Group Winners Path

If France wins Group D, as they are favourites to do, they will take on the runners-up in Group F which is likely to be Turkey or the Czech Republic with an outside chance of it being Portugal or Georgia.

The likelihood is that France would then meet Group E winners in the Quarter-Final with the odds saying that it will be Belgium or Ukraine There is a chance that France could play one of the 3rd placed teams in this round too, if that team is defeated by the Group E winners in the round of 16.

The Semi-Final could see France face off against either the winners of Group C which England are favourites to be or the 3rd place side from D/E/F (so potentially a re-match from their own group), or a runner-up from Groups A or B, potentially Switzerland or Spain/Italy/Croatia. This means that France could potentially meet England in a repeat of the World Cup Quarter-Final.

This could see France face Portugal in a repeat of the Euro 2016 Final, tournament hosts Germany who France have lost to twice in a matter of months or potentially Spain.

Group Runner-Up Path

If France were to finish runners-up in their group it would be a bit of a shock having topped their group in the last four major tournaments. However, if they did they would be drawn to face the runner-up in Group either Ukraine or Romania.

France would most then most likely take on Portugal if they won Group or potentially the third-place side from A/B/C. The semi-final could then be against tournament hosts Germany or the first placer from Group B, either Spain, Italy or Croatia.

The odds would then suggest a rematch against England or potentially the winners of their original group

Third Place Path

It would be nothing short of a massive shock if France had to rely on 3rd place finish to qualify out of the group. However, as shown in the recent AFCON Nations Tournament in 2024 who went on to win the tournament.

However, hypothetically if that was to occur France would play the winner of the tough Group B (possibly Spain) or the winner of Group C, likely to be England, or perhaps Denmark.

This could see them take on Germany in the Quarter-Final or potentially England or Denmark whoever finishes second in their Group C. The next match could potentially vs Switzerland/Hungary or Spain/Croatia/Italy, whoever emerges from that all-runner-up clash.

In the Semi-Final that could see them play Portugal or Belgium.
