France v Scotland Preview
France Form
Since French Head Coach Fabien Galthié was appointed in 2019, he’s had the remarkable feat of making the unpredictable French, predictable and in a positive sense with a win rate of 77.19% winning 44/57 matches. At the same time, they’ve been paradoxically less successful with only the 2022 Six Nations title to their name since 2011 with their last success before that coming in 2020.
Following their runners-up finish to Ireland in the 2024 Six Nations they concluded their seasons with a drawn series against Argentina along with a win over Uruguay in the summer. In the Autumn Series, they performed brilliantly to close out the season with a 52-12 win over Japan, a 30-29 thriller against New Zealand and a 37-23 win over Argentina.
Their 2025 Six Nations Championship commenced with a dominant showing winning 43-0 which was France’s second biggest win against Wales since their 51-0 win over them during the 1998 Five Nations. However, that was followed by a late 26-25 defeat against England after conceding a last-minute converted try.
More recently, they were back at their rampant best against Italy blowing them away with a 24-73 victory that included eleven tries! Last weekend they put the Six Nations Championship’s destination in their own hands following a 27-42 bonus point victory over Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.
Scotland Form
The Scots finished the 2024 Six Nations Championship following two victories including another Calcutta Cup victory this time in a 30-21 scoreline. The second half of their 2024 was largely positive though the quality of opposition was considerably lower with wins over Canada, the USA, Chile and Uruguay during the Summer Internationals.
Their season concluded in Autumn with a 57-17 win over Fiji, a 15-32 defeat at the hands of South Africa before a 59-21 win over Portugal and a 27-13 win over Australia. Ahead of the 2025 Six Nations, some were predicting them as potential dark horses for their first Championship since 1999.
They opened the tournament with a 31-19 victory over Italy with the highlight being a hattrick from Glasgow centre Huw Jones. However, in their second game, Ireland were a class above the Scots losing to an 18-32 scoreline. The following week they lost 16-15 to England in the Calcutta Cup after a missed conversion attempt to win the game.
Last weekend the Scots had a 35-29 win over Wales though powered ahead in the first half of the game and by the 46th minute they were 28-8 points up against the Welsh, they went to sleep for the remainder of the game being outscored by Wales by 7 points to 21.

Key Players
Louis Bielle-Biarrey- France
The Bordeaux Bègles player may still only be 21 years old but he’s already established both in the club and International scene for his prolific try-scoring ability. He debuted for France in August 2023 against Scotland during the 2023 Rugby World Cup warm-up games coming on the wrong side of a 25-21 scoreline.
Since debuting he’s been capped 18 times by France and has already scored 85 points including 7 tries during the 2025 Six Nations so far following a brace against Wales, a brace against England, a try against Italy and another brace against Ireland last weekend.
Duhan Van Der Merwe – Scotland
The South African now Scottish International (29) has been nothing of a rip-roaring success since debuting for the Scotts in 2020 already amassing a total of 160 points from 47 tests with 32 tries making him the country's all-time try scorer.
During last season’s Six Nations, he was exceptional including a hat trick against England and despite being scoreless in the opening fixture against Italy, he did score a try against Ireland earlier in the tournament and remains their biggest threat.
France v Scotland Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: France 40-15 Scotland
Ahead of the weekend, following their victory at the Aviva last weekend France look well-placed to end their Six Nations Championship drought.
Scotland have disappointed this tournament with even their wins coming by smaller-than-expected margins.
France have been brilliant all tournament aside from their defeat to England and I can’t see them being beaten.
