France v Italy Preview
France’s Form
Didier Deschamps has been in charge of France since he was first appointed on the 8th of July 2012 and has brought them to a 2018 World Cup title, a runner-up finish in the 2022 tournament, a Nations League success in 20/21 and a Euro Championship runner-up at Euro 2016. However, he has garnered criticism during Euro 2024 for his negative tactical approach.
France for several seasons have had inarguably one of the strongest squads in International Football boosting names even outside of the squad who would be mainstays for pretty much every other country. One name stands above all else though and that Real Madrid man Mbappe who has a phenomenal record of 48 goals in 84 appearances for France.
Following criticism over their approach at Euro 2024, it’ll be interesting to see if Didier changes tune for this campaign and encourages his side to play the football their talents deserve.

Italy’s Form
Luciano Spalletti was appointed as manager on the 18th of August 2023 following the unexpected resignation of Roberto Mancini. He has since managed them to a record of 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats from 14 games, a win rate of 50% and a goal difference of +8. Although their Euro 2024 performance left a lot to be desired.
While this is a far cry from a “golden age” for Italian Football there is still plenty of quality in their squad from top to bottom with plenty of players in their early twenties it could be an emerging punting option for the next World Cup. The likes of Udogie (21) Tonali (24) and Donnarumma (25) could provide the next core for Italian Football.
Italy didn’t show up at Euro 2024, but they’re a better side than that and are well capable of giving France a good game.

Key Players To Watch
Kylian Mbappe – France
A lot is expected of the World Class attacker who has 48 goals in 84 games for his country. While he wasn’t able to replicate his World Cup showing at Euro 2024 he remains a prolific player and arguably the best player in World Football row and so naturally the man to watch.
Sandro Tonali – Italy
Returning to International Football for the first time since his ban in 2023 the spotlight will be very much on him in this game. However, if he can bring the level of performance that he is capable of with his passing ability and defensive coverage, he could be just the antidote to what Italy were missing in midfield in recent months.
France v Italy Prediction & Best Bet
Prediction: France 2-0 Italy
France will be expected to put their Euro 2024 elimination behind them and win this game. However, they need to guard against complacency as if Didier decides to sit back against Italy of all sides we could be heading toward a deadlock on the scoreline.
Italy are better than what they showed at Euro 2024 and the return of Tonali is a big boost but with Barella not yet back with the squad, I can’t see them getting something out of this game.
A low-scoring French victory looks to be on the cards.
Best Bet: France Win + Under 2.5 Goals @ 14/5
