Altior’s odds have crumbled even further after main rival Un de Sceaux was a high-profile absentee from declarations for Saturday’s Clarence House Chase.
Willie Mullins cited good ground as he pulled Un de Sceaux from the line up for the Grade 1 at Ascot, leaving just three runners to go to post as Altior bids to register his 17th consecutive victory and go within one of the record set by Big Bucks.
Fox Norton went from 10/1 into 8/1 after declarations with Diego Du Charmil the only other contender at 20/1.
Altior is still the runaway 2/5 favourite to retain his Champion Chase crown at the Cheltenham Festival in March, with Footpad and Min his nearest challengers in the antepost market at 8/1 apiece.
