The Germany World Cup 2026 campaign has yet to hit top gear but they should have too much for Paraguay in the inaugural Round of 32 . Julian Nagelsmann ’s men won Group E with a six-point haul but they only finished ahead of Ivory Coast on goal difference and were handed a number of scares along the way.
They will now face a Paraguay side who bounced back from a first-match mauling by the USA in Group D to qualify as one of the eight best third-placed nations. Paraguay reached the quarter-finals in their last World Cup in 2010 but we expect Boston to be the end of the line this time for La Albirroja against one of the tournament favourites.
Germany defeated the South Americans thanks to a late Oliver Neuville winner in the first knockout round in 2002 before going on to reach the final and they will hope for something similar this year. And our Germany vs Paraguay prediction is for the four-time world champions to qualify in normal time @ 2/5 .

A talent-packed Germany World Cup squad finished top of their group as many expected they would, but the manner of their progress to the knockout stages was far from smooth. They were locked 1-1 after 38 minutes of their opening clash with Curacao , the smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup, before moving up through the gears to record a 7-1 win .
In their second outing, Nagelsmann’s team trailed 1-0 to Ivory Coast and needed two second-half goals - including a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time - from substitute Deniz Undav to claim a 2-1 victory . And in their final group match the 2014 world champions were beaten 2-1 by Ecuador despite taking a second-minute lead through Leroy Sane.
It has been far from perfect for Germany but they will be delighted with the impact of the unheralded Undav, who also scored after coming off the bench against Curacao, and for our World Cup tips today we’re backing the Stuttgart forward to score @ 6/5 . We also like the look of Kai Havertz scoring in a Germany win @ 13/8 .
Paraguay form guide
Paraguay returned to the World Cup for the first time in 16 years after claiming the sixth and final automatic qualifying place in the CONMEBOL section. However, sixth spot doesn’t tell the whole story. They finished a massive eight points clear of Bolivia in seventh and were only one point behind second-placed Ecuador.
La Albirroja were beaten just four times in their 18 qualifiers - only Ecuador suffered fewer defeats - and claimed home wins over both Brazil and Argentina . Their matches were often low-scoring affairs, with 13 finishing either 1-0 or 0-0, while there were just 24 goals scored in total in all of Paraguay’s matches.
It has been a largely similar story at this summer’s finals too. They were hammered 4-1 by the USA in their opening match but since then have beaten Turkey 1-0 and drawn 0-0 with Australia . With all that in mind, and the fact Paraguay have had just five shots on target so far, we’re not expecting a high-scoring encounter and our second World Cup tips today is for Germany to win with under 3.5 goals in total @ 11/10 .
