Cape Verde
4. Cape Verde @ 50/1
Cape Verde are one of four nations making their World Cup debuts this summer and the Blue Sharks will be chomping at the bit to add a new chapter to their remarkable tale.
With a population of barely 500,000 and a land mass of just 4,000km², the tiny African archipelago island became one of the smallest nations to qualify for the finals when they finished top of CAF Group D , four points ahead of Cameroon .
Under the leadership of 2025 CAF Men’s Coach of the Year Bubista , Cape Verde are firm underdogs to finish bottom of the World Cup Group H t able but will be out to make a big impression.
Saudi Arabia
3. Saudi Arabia @ 16/1
Saudi Arabia caused one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history when they beat eventual champions Argentina 2–1 in the opening match of the 2022 finals in Qatar , and they will be targeting more big-name scalps this time.
The Green Falcons are fast becoming part of the World Cup furniture after qualifying for their seventh finals in nine editions, although the only time they have got beyond the group stage was on their debut at USA 1994 which could bode well for their return to North America.
Their participation in 2026 had been in doubt at one stage but the decision to bring back former coach Herve Renard to replace Roberto Mancini during qualifying paid dividends. Renard was sacked in April and Saudi Arabia will now be under the guidance of former Blackburn and Huddersfield midfielder Georgios Donis this summer.

Uruguay
2. Uruguay @ 4/1
Uruguay should be the biggest threat to Spain’s Group H ambitions and could well go deep at the tournament. Under the guidance of master tactician Marcelo Bielsa , Uruguay can call on the services of a host of familiar names, including Federico Valverde , Darwin Nunez , Ronald Araujo , Manuel Ugarte and Rodrigo Bentancur.
They also have a fine pedigree at the highest level, winning the inaugural World Cup i n 1930 and lifting the Jules Rimet trophy again in 1950, while they were semi-finalists in 2010.
Los Charruas suffered a disappointing group-stage exit in Qatar four years ago but were handed a tough draw against Portugal , South Korea and Ghana , and they should have less problems this summer.
Spain
1. Spain @ 1/5
Spain have all the ingredients required to be crowned world champions for the second time in New Jersey on July 19 after recent disappointments. Since lifting the trophy in 2010, Spain were knocked out at the group stage in 2014 before suffering successive last-16 exits, losing to Russia and Morocco respectively on penalties.
However, they should do much better this year under Luis de la Fuente . The former youth-team coach took charge in late 2022 and has led Spain to victory at the 2023 Nations League and Euro 2024 , while also finishing runners-up to Portugal in last year’s Nations League final following a penalty shoot-out their only loss since March 2024.
In qualifying for their 13th successive World Cup finals, Spain were only denied a 100 per cent record by a 2-2 draw with Turkey in their final group game and finished with an aggregate scoring record of 21-2, a run which helped them climb to the top of FIFA’s world rankings.
There may not be the household names of the past in the Spain World Cup 2026 squad , epitomised by the previously-unheralded De La Fuente , but they have quality throughout and in teenage superstar Lamine Yamal have a player ripe to take the world by storm in North America.

Spain/Uruguay straight forecast @ 4/5
Spain should have too much quality for the rest of the pool but the experience of Bielsa can also help Uruguay advance.
