Landing Julen Lopetegui as head coach was a decent coup as the Maroons seek to improve on a moderate showing as hosts four years ago, when losing by exactly two goals against Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands.
However, judged on a patchy qualification process, this ageing side will again find life tough this time around.
Bosnia & Herzegovina

The Dragons will be relying on 40-year-old talismanic front man Edin Dzeko to continue defying Father Time, just as he did throughout their qualifying group and the play-offs.
After winning on penalties in Wales, Bosnia upset the odds when successful in another shoot-out versus Italy and are more than capable of carrying forward that fighting spirit.
There is a question mark over whether they have the quality to go much further, but Sergej Barbarez ’s team will never be easy to beat.

Reaching the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 was another example of their reliability, when knocking out Italy prior to only losing out on penalties against England.
