Inter Milan are expected to remain top dogs in Italy this season but, unlike some other leagues, the battle for the Serie A title has not always been a predictable affair.
Over the last seven years there have been four different champions, with Juventus , AC Milan and Napoli joining Inter in winning the Scudetto . With Roma , Lazio and Atalanta also claiming top-three finishes during that period, Italy could lay claim to having one of the most diverse title races in Europe .

Inter Milan

The Nerazzurri have been Italy’s standard bearers in recent times, winning the title in 2021, 2024 and 2026 while also finishing runners-up three times and third in that spell. Last season’s success, Inter’s 21st title, saw Cristian Chivu's men finish 11 points clear of the chasing pack while scoring 24 more goals than any other team.
Inter , who also reached the Champions League final in 2023 and 2025, are favourites to retain their crown but they have seen a number of senior players leave this summer, most notably at the back where Denzel Dumfries , Stefan de Vrij, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian and goalkeeper Yann Sommer have all moved on.
Napoli

Napoli , champions in 2023 and 2025 and runners-up last season, again look likely to be the biggest threat to Inter even though serial winner Antonio Conte is no longer in charge. Conte left Napoli at the end of last season after two years at the helm but his replacement, 58-year-old Massimiliano Allegri, is no stranger to success either.
The four-time Serie A Coach of the Year won six titles and a host of cups during his time at AC Milan and Juventus and he is now back in familiar surroundings at Napoli , having spent a short time at the club during his playing days.

Juventus ’ time as the undisputed heavyweights of Italian football are now over but their star power remains undiminished and a return to past glories seems only a matter of time for The Old Lady.
Juve won a record nine successive Serie A titles between 2012 and 2020, taking their overall tally to 36, while they also claimed the Coppa Italia four years on the trot and reached two Champions League finals during those heady days.
The Turin giants have since been knocked off their perch by Inter and have only finished in the top three once in the last six seasons. Luciano Spalletti guided Juve to sixth last term after taking over in October and the former Italy boss, who led Napoli to the title in 2023, will look to push on this coming season.
AC Milan

Milan have turned to Ruben Amorim in a bid to recapture the form that saw them win a 19th Serie A title and finish runners-up twice between 2021-2024. The former Manchester United boss has taken over from Allegri , who was sacked after a nightmare end to last season saw Milan miss out on Champions League qualification.
Amorim may feel he has something to prove after an ill-fated spell at Old Trafford and he will be targeting a top-four finish at the very least, especially with the Milan hierarchy supporting him in the transfer market.
The Rossoneri splashed out a reported club-record £60million to bring in Amorim’s Portuguese compatriot Goncalo Ramos from Paris St Germain, while around £25m was spent on signing defender Mario Gila from Lazio .
