Seven league games. One defeat. Six goals conceded.
Leeds United head to the Stadium of Light on Sunday sitting seventh, and Daniel Farke’s side go there as favourites.
Sunderland arrive in a very different place. Four straight league defeats have dropped Régis Le Bris’ side to the bottom of the table.
They also played in Poland on Thursday night – just three days before kick-off.

Head-to-Head
Sunderland vs Leeds United Head-to-Head
Leeds United have a score to settle.
Sunderland won 1-0 at Elland Road in March, Habib Diarra converting a penalty on 70 minutes. It was the Black Cats’ third win in 12 Premier League meetings – the Whites have won eight.
The trip north has been kinder still. Leeds United have won three of their five Premier League visits to the Stadium of Light, and the most recent ended level.
That was in December, when Simon Adingra opened the scoring before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised two minutes after the break.
Across 99 meetings, according to 11v11, Leeds United have won 41, Sunderland 36, and 22 have finished level.

Kevin Danso is suspended. The on-loan defender was sent off for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity at Bournemouth, and his one-match ban applies to the Premier League only – so he is free for Thursday but misses Sunday.
Dan Ballard and Thomas Meunier are both expected to miss out with hamstring problems, and Romaine Mundle is out for months with a knee injury.
That leaves Le Bris short at the back. Luke O’Nien is the likeliest replacement for Danso.
Up front, Brian Brobbey missed the Europa League win at Torreense with a hamstring problem but is pushing to return. Wilson Isidor is also a doubt.
Leeds United Team News
Daniel Farke has a settled side and very little to fix.
Joe Rodon is closing in on a return from the hamstring injury he picked up against Brentford in August. Farke will be glad to have his Wales defender back, but Nico Elvedi has filled in comfortably.
Dan James has been working his way back from a back problem picked up on international duty and could make the squad. Mateo Joseph remains a long-term absentee with a knee injury.
Predicted Line-Ups
Sunderland vs Leeds United Predicted Line-Ups
Sunderland predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Roefs; Mukiele, O’Nien, Alderete, Reinildo; Xhaka, Sadiki; Angulo, Le Fée, Hume; Tutierov.
Leeds United predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Trafford; Justin, Elvedi, Muharemović; Bogle, Ampadu, Tanaka, Gudmundsson; Stach, Okafor; Calvert-Lewin.
O’Nien comes in for the suspended Danso, while Timur Tutierov led the line at Bournemouth and does so again unless Brobbey is passed fit.
The genuine toss-up is out wide. Nilson Angulo has started six of Sunderland’s seven league games but was benched last weekend, with Chris Rigg handed only his first start of the season. Angulo gets the nod here.
Leeds United should be unchanged from the side that drew with Manchester United.
Form Guides
Sunderland vs Leeds United Form Guides
Sunderland Form Guide
Sunderland’s season started brightly enough. A 1-0 win over Fulham and a point at Brentford followed an opening-day defeat at Ipswich Town.
Since then, four straight league defeats. Arsenal and Brighton both won 2-0 at the Stadium of Light, Manchester City won 5-3 at the Etihad, and Bournemouth won by the same 2-0 scoreline last Sunday.
The Brighton game was the one that stung. Le Bris’ side could not find a way through even after the visitors went down to 10 men.
Goals are the issue. The Black Cats have failed to score in three of their last four league games, and Brobbey has three of their six league goals on his own.
Europe has gone better – wins over AZ Alkmaar and Torreense, the latter settled by a Noah Sadiki goal in stoppage time.
Thursday night in Poznań is a third game in eight days, leaving very little time to recover before Sunday.
Leeds United Form Guide
Leeds United are one of the hardest sides in the division to beat.
Six goals conceded in seven league games – only Arsenal and Brighton have let in fewer. James Trafford, Ethan Ampadu and Tarik Muharemović have played every minute.
The one defeat came at the Emirates Stadium, and the Whites led there. James Justin finished off a Gabriel Gudmundsson cross on 55 minutes before Arsenal turned it around late.
Last Sunday brought another comeback point. Bryan Mbeumo put Manchester United ahead at Elland Road, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised six minutes after the restart, turning in a Muharemović knockdown from an Anton Stach corner.
Farke felt his side deserved more, and the numbers agree – Leeds United finished with 1.44 expected goals (xG, a measure of chance quality) to United’s 0.91.
Calvert-Lewin has four league goals , and only Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak and João Pedro have scored more.
Betting Tips
Sunderland vs Leeds United Betting Tips
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Anytime Goalscorer – 6/4
Dominic Calvert-Lewin Anytime Goalscorer is the standout. He has four goals in seven league games, scored at the Stadium of Light in December, and now faces a Sunderland back line without Danso, Ballard and Meunier.
Leeds United – Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 – 11/4
Boosted up from 5/2. Leeds United have won three of their five Premier League visits to the Stadium of Light, and every one finished 2-1 or 2-0. Sunderland have not scored in their last two league games, so Leeds United – Win 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 fits the shape of this one.
Under 2.5 Goals – 8/11
Five of Leeds United’s seven league games have finished with two goals or fewer, and so have five of Sunderland’s. A tight defence against a side struggling for goals makes Under 2.5 Goals the natural fit.
Sunderland vs Leeds United Prediction
Sunderland 0-1 Leeds United.
Sunderland have lost their last two home league games without scoring and come into this off a midweek trip to Poland.
Leeds United have the third-best defence in the division and a striker in form so one goal could well be enough here.
