Arsenal are still slight favourites to retain their title, but Manchester City have been cut to 5/4 in the Premier League outright winner betting after heading into the international break with a 100 per cent record.
The Citizens , who began the season as 11/4 shots, made it five straight wins in this competition with a frantic 5-3 victory over Sunderland at Etihad Stadium and are three points ahead of the Gunners.
“To be honest, I prefer to win 1-0 than 5-3, but I expected a very difficult game,” said head coach Enzo Maresca . “I knew how good they are; off the ball very aggressive and on the ball they have different weapons.”
Since losing the Community Shield against Arsenal , City have also won their opening Champions League match away to Porto and beaten Norwich in the Carabao Cup.
“The good thing is that these seven official games we played, they are all different,” Maresca added. “We experienced different things; the last one with 10 men (against Manchester United ), today was a complicated one, the Bournemouth one we were losing 1-0, so also a chance to learn from the game.”

Gunners rocked by ‘sloppy’ defeat at Brighton
Arsenal’s perfect start to the campaign came to an emphatic end when they were hammered 3-0 at Brighton on Saturday, but they are EVS to ultimately still finish on top of the table again. Having conceded just one goal in Premier League wins over Coventry , Aston Villa, Chelsea and Sunderland , the Gunners were well below par at Amex Stadium .
Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes , a £75million summer capture from Newcastle , admitted: “We are very disappointed, and we have to learn from our mistakes because we were far away off our level. We were too sloppy with the ball, didn’t win any duels. And we cannot accept this while wearing this shirt of a champion. We cannot repeat this.
“It’s a lesson for us because I think we’ve been on a good run so far. We’d won every game, but this is a game to forget and we have to improve. It was a bad day at the office for everyone, and we have to say sorry to the fans because it wasn’t good enough.”
Brighton are just two points behind Arsenal in third following that win and can be backed at 40/1 for a surprise title triumph.
Liverpool unbeaten
Reds unbeaten but still lagging behind
Liverpool are 14/1 third favourites after a 1-0 victory at Bournemouth maintained their unbeaten record, with Alexander Isak bagging the deciding goal. A trio of early draws left the Reds six points off the pace but a successful return to Vitality Stadium for manager Andoni Iraola made it seven games without defeat in all competitions.
Iraola said: “To win here is very difficult, I know it very well. Normally, Bournemouth starts really strong, and it took us 20, 25 minutes until we matched a little bit this level. From there, I think at the end of the first half and the second half we played better. Better situations with the ball, and we could win the game.”
Chelsea can be backed at 20/1 after a crushing 3-0 loss at Brentford saw them fall eight points behind City , with all of the goals conceded after the hour mark.
Xabi Alonso , who has conceded two or more goals in each of his first five Premier League matches, said: “I would say we have dropped our consistency, our competitive mentality needed, in the second half. The small details can be decisive.”
Manchester United began the season on 6/1 but have drifted out to 50/1 after a 1-1 draw at Fulham left them with just five points from as many matches.
