Head-to-Head

Leeds United vs Man Utd Head-to-Head

Leeds United are unbeaten in their last two league meetings with Man Utd, and the most recent will live long in the memory. Noah Okafor struck twice inside the first half-hour at Old Trafford in April, Lisandro Martínez was sent off for pulling Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair, and the Whites held on to win 2-1, their first league victory at Old Trafford since February 1981.

That win also ended a run of ten league meetings without a victory over United, stretching back more than two decades.

Across 100 league meetings, Man Utd have won 41 and Leeds United 24, with 35 drawn.

The Whites are chasing a first home league win over United since Harry Kewell’s header in September 2002, with two draws and three defeats in the five meetings at Elland Road since – a record they’ll fancy breaking on current form.

Team News

Leeds United vs Man Utd Team News

Leeds United Team News

Daniel Farke will be without Joe Rodon (hamstring) and Mateo Joseph (knee) for now and will be keen to have both back soon, while Daniel James is a doubt with a back problem picked up on Wales duty.

Harry Wilson (quad) and Jean-Matteo Bahoya (ankle) are both back after making the bench at Arsenal.

Man Utd Team News

Patrick Dorgu (hamstring), Benjamin Šeško (shin), Manuel Ugarte (knee) and Tom Heaton (hamstring) are all out, while Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are doubts after picking up knocks against Tottenham.

Noussair Mazraoui is being assessed, Matthijs de Ligt is back in contention after a long-term back injury, and Lisandro Martínez could be left out after his public criticism of the club’s hierarchy.

Neither side has a suspension.

Predicted Line-Ups

Leeds United vs Man Utd Predicted Line-Ups

Leeds United predicted XI (3-5-2): Trafford; Justin, Elvedi, Muharemović; Bogle, Stach, Ampadu, Tanaka, Gudmundsson; Calvert-Lewin, Okafor.

Man Utd predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martínez, Heaven; Santos, Baleba; Fernandes, Mainoo, Rashford; Mbeumo.

Daniel Farke is without Joe Rodon and Mateo Joseph, while Daniel James is a doubt, so Leeds United are expected to name the same XI that ran Arsenal close last weekend. Man Utd are without Benjamin Šeško, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte, leaving Bryan Mbeumo to lead the line, while Lisandro Martínez and Kobbie Mainoo keep their places but are far from certain to start.

Form Guides

Leeds United vs Man Utd Form Guides

Leeds United Form Guide

The Whites have proven to be a hard nut for their opposition to crack so far this season, going unbeaten at Elland Road across their three home games following a 1-1 draw with Brentford, a 4-1 victory over Newcastle and a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Last weekend, Leeds United were unfortunate not to have got something against reigning league champions Arsenal away from home. James Justin gave them the lead in the 55th minute, and it took a goal from Riccardo Calafiori in the 62nd minute and Bruno Guimarães in the 70th minute to earn the home side a win in what had been a closely fought game.

Daniel Farke has built a well-drilled unit from back to front, with James Trafford, Ethan Ampadu and Dominic Calvert-Lewin forming a strong core. Trafford has brought assurance behind a settled back line, Ampadu sets the tone in midfield, and Calvert-Lewin leads the line as the club’s top scorer with three goals.

The Whites have conceded just five times in six league games, a total no side in the division has bettered.

Man Utd Form Guide

The Red Devils have struggled to pick up results on the road so far this season, going winless away from Old Trafford across their three league games following a 2-0 defeat at Hull City, a 2-2 draw with Everton and a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Last weekend, Man Utd were made to settle for a point against bottom-of-the-table Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo gave them the lead in the 73rd minute, and Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for the visitors, but Dominic Solanke headed in a 92nd-minute equaliser to deny the home side a win.

Things got no easier in midweek, as United slipped to a 2-0 defeat away to Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, even if the performance showed glimpses of improvement. Pablo Barrios struck early, and Ademola Lookman added a second at the Metropolitano, before Lisandro Martínez used his post-match interview to publicly criticise the club’s hierarchy, singling out director of football Jason Wilcox over a lack of summer signings.

Despite the poor start and selection problems, Michael Carrick still has a spine of talented footballers to lean on, who are capable of far more than they’re giving. Senne Lammens is a reliable shot-stopper. Bruno Fernandes remains dangerous even if out of sync, and Mbeumo has been a productive performer so far this season with three league goals.

United have conceded nine times in six league games and are yet to keep a clean sheet in the league this season.

Betting Tips

Leeds United vs Man Utd Betting Tips

BTTS – 1/2

Man Utd have conceded in every league game this season, so Leeds United should find a way through, while United have scored in five of their six league outings. Both teams have scored in four of the last five league meetings between the sides, including the 1-1 at Elland Road in January and the Whites’ 2-1 win at Old Trafford in April.

Draw – 12/5

United have drawn three of their six league games, including two of their three away trips, while Leeds United have drawn two of their three at Elland Road. With the Whites hard to break down and United struggling to turn draws into wins, a repeat of January’s 1-1 at Elland Road looks a live outcome.

Leeds United vs Man Utd Prediction

Leeds United 1-1 Man Utd.

Leeds United have had their rivals’ number in recent domestic encounters and, given their opponents’ issues on and off the field, we can see them earning at least another point come Sunday.
