Fabregas among favourites in Blues frame
A flurry of activity in the market for the next Chelsea manager has seen Andoni Iraola backed into favourite following the departure of Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior was relieved of his duties less than four months into a six-year contract after a calamitous run of five consecutive league defeats without scoring, prompting the club hierarchy to make a swift change in the dugout.
The market has reacted just as quickly, with Andoni Iraola emerging as the 7/4 favourite with BOYLE Sports after being strongly backed down from 6/1 in the past 24 hours. The Spaniard’s services are up for grabs after he confirmed he will leave Bournemouth at the end of the campaign and he now leads the race for Stamford Bridge hotseat ahead of Fulham boss Marco Silva and former Blues midfielder Cesc Fàbregas (both 4/1), who has been turning heads in his managerial role at high-flying Como in Serie A.
Another familiar face, Frank Lampard, is priced at 10/1 after guiding Coventry City to Premier League promotion, while a potential third spell for José Mourinho is considered an outside possibility at 16/1.
Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BOYLE Sports, said:
“Chelsea will once again be searching for stability in the dugout, but we expect a few twists in the coming days in what is already a fast-moving market. It’s safe to say Andoni Iraola is the standout candidate with punters so far, but Cesc Fabregas is one of a few interesting runners attracting speculative punts.”
