Speaking exclusively to BOYLE Sports former Premier League defender William Gallas has given his perspective on the goings on at Liverpool , earmarking a fellow Frenchman as the perfect player to replace Mohamad Salah this summer and encourages a shock return for a club legend in the summer to replace Arne Slot.
In a wide-ranging interview, the defender who played three seasons at Tottenham gave his thoughts on the appointment of Roberto De Zerbi , if he can guide them to safety this season or if the dreaded relegation comes could Spurs bounce-back in the Championship next season, he also backed Robbie Keane to take the Celtic job in the summer, now that the Spurs job may no longer be a distraction.

Replacing Salah
Can Michael Olise replace Mohamed Salah at Liverpool ? Yes. Everybody likes him. Everybody wants him. But he won’t go anywhere. Not for next season, I don’t think. I think Olise will stay one more year, and maybe he looks like he's happy to stay there longer, but don’t forget he is also from the UK, so maybe in the future he will try to come back to the Premier League . He will stay at Bayern Munich at least one more year.

Will uncertainty over Arne Slot put players off going to Liverpool ? Nowadays, yes, the players always care about this because everyone has got the news on their phones and everything. They know what’s going on. We don’t know if he’s going to stay as manager at Liverpool because he has had a difficult season. No one knows what’s going to happen to him, and the question is, who is going to be the manager next season for Liverpool ?

People are talking about Xabi Alonso , but I don't know why they don’t bring in Steven Gerrard . Jürgen Klopp doesn't want to be a manager anymore, so why don’t they give the opportunity to Steven Gerrard ? I think you have to give him that opportunity if the job is free. I don’t know why Liverpool have not asked him. I try to understand why.
Does his time at Aston Villa mean he’d not be a good Liverpool manager? Everything is there for him. You will never know unless you give him the opportunity, and then we will see what is going to happen. With some managers, you take the risk. Why don’t you take the risk on Steven Gerard , a guy who is from there, played for the club, is a legend. I think Mr Kenny Dalglish was in the same situation, no? Why not!

Can Di Zerbi Keep Tottenham Up?
Most of the players will know about Roberto De Zerbi because he was a manager at Brighton . I think the players will speak more about De Zerbi , for sure, but Spurs are in a bad situation, so they need to take the best solution they can to keep them in the Premier League. They need the right man for seven games, and then they can choose who will be the right manager for next season.
I would have gone for Harry Redknapp . He’s got the experience. He’s been in this situation with Tottenham before, almost at the bottom of the table, and you need to know what to say to the players to make them want to survive. I don’t think De Zerbi has that experience. You don’t have the time to get your team playing the way you want to play. It’s short-term now. You just need results. Take the three points. Be safe. Let's say, unfortunately, Tottenham do go to the second division, do you think De Zerbi would stay? I think it is in his contract, but if they go down, he’s leaving.
You have to bring in the one manager who is going to save that club and keep them in the Premier League . Harry Redknapp has the influence; he has that experience to motivate the players and the squad. Now the question is whether he would have had the energy to do it all again, because it is not easy, even if it’s only for two more months until the end of the season. You need a lot of energy, and when was the last time he was the manager? It was a long time.
Would Tottenham Bounce-Back?
Nobody wants to play in the Championship because it’s very tough. If you go down into the Championship , you cannot be sure you will go back to the Premier League , at least not straight away.
Last year, look at what happened to Tottenham . They finished in 17th position, and they won the Europa League . Everybody was surprised, but that means something is wrong in that club for the last few years. It’s not possible. Maybe four years ago, they were fighting to be in the top four. Now look at where they are. Something is wrong.
Keane’s Next Move
Everybody wants to be the manager of a top division team. If you are the manager of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League , you would pick Spurs , but Tottenham in the Championship . Nobody knows what’s going to happen. It is a big gamble. If Tottenham go down, Robbie Keane should manage Celtic .
