Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso may be hoping for a quieter afternoon against fellow Premier League high-fliers Hull on Saturday after successive Stamford Bridge epics.
Blues fans would have seen their nerves tested by last month’s 4-3 win over Brighton but that was nothing compared to Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third-round visit of Leeds .
Chelsea were booed off at half-time and then promptly fell 2-0 behind soon after the restart but, with Alonso having sent on the cavalry during the interval, the home side turned things round to win a remarkable match 6-3 – with eight of the goals coming in the second period. Alonso said after the game: “We want to have better balance, to be more solid, to be able to win in a boring game as well.”
We think Alonso may well get his wish against a Hull side whose five games this season have only produced six goals in total, with our prediction being a home win with under 3.5 goals @ 11/8 .

Chelsea have won four of their five competitive matches under Alonso but no fixture has been particularly comfortable so far.
In the league they edged out local rivals Fulham 3-2 first up and held off Brighton in that seven-goal thriller before losing 2-1 at Arsenal having taken a second-minute lead.
In the Carabao Cup they needed a late goal to finally see off the challenge of League One Luton 2-0 and then had to stage a second-half onslaught to beat Leeds in midweek.
That turnaround was sparked by the half-time introductions of Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, Reece James and Pedro Neto , with the quartet providing three goals and three assists between them.
Palmer’s quickfire brace doubled his tally for the season and he is 4/5 to add another against the Tigers, while Neto is 5/2 to score for the third time in four games .

Hull could hardly have made a better start to their first season back in the Premier League since 2017 and sit third after the opening three matches , one point and one place above Chelsea.
Sergej Jakirovic’s men stunned Manchester United 2-0 in their opening match and then proved that was no fluke by beating Championship winners Coventry and drawing with Europa League champions Aston Villa.
That has left the Tigers with seven points – only Manchester City and Arsenal have more – and they are the only club yet to concede a goal in the Premier League.
Hull also beat Stoke on penalties to reach the Carabao Cup third round following a 1-1 draw, although their campaign ended in midweek following a narrow 1-0 loss at Sunderland.
The Tigers would probably settle for a point from their trip to the big-spending Blues, and you can get odds of 5/1 for that to happen.
