Manchester City can take a step closer to recording the best-ever start to a Premier League season this weekend but face a major obstacle in the form of rapidly improving Aston Villa .
City have won all seven league matches under new boss Enzo Maresca and are now just two victories short of equalling Chelsea’s record of nine straight wins from the start of a season, set under José Mourinho in 2005-06.
Overall, City have won 10 of their 11 competitive matches since losing to Arsenal in the Community Shield , but Villa are now in similarly impressive form following a poor start and could climb into the top six if results go their way.
Villa have not lost at home to City since 2021, winning three of four games in that time, while they also did the double over them last season – including a 2-1 win at the Etihad in Pep Guardiola’s final game in charge of City .
Both teams will have a very different look about them this weekend following a major summer of change, but we think Villa could cause City problems again and we’re going for a draw @ 16/5 .

Haaland was an unused substitute after hobbling off in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Ipswich but it mattered little as City claimed their biggest European victory in two years.
Phil Foden struck a hat-trick as he took his tally to four goals in two games since being sent off at Manchester United , while Elliot Anderson and Rayan Cherki were also on the scoresheet.
Haaland seems likely to be back to lead the City attack at Villa Park and, having missed out on the goal-fest against AEK , he will be chomping at the bit to add to his tally of 12 goals in his last eight appearances.
