With over £3billion spent by England’s top-flight clubs, there were no shortage of contenders to feature in our top 10 Premier League transfer signings of the 2026 summer window.
Yet more eye-catching moves were made on deadline day and this is how we have ranked some of the best buys on a pound-for-pound basis:
Sandro Tonali
10. SANDRO TONALI (TOTTENHAM)
Spurs have splashed the cash like never before this summer, including £100million to bring in Tonali from Newcastle . The 26-year-old Italian was a Serie A winner with AC Milan before impressing for the Magpies and has the strength, speed and creativity to be a complete midfielder, but it may take time for Robert De Zerbi’s new-look Tottenham team to gel together.
Christos Tzolis
9. CHRISTOS TZOLIS (ARSENAL)
With Leandro Trossard set to be joined out of the Emirates Stadium exit door by Gabriel Martinelli , the Gunners had a left-wing hole to fill and appear to have unearthed a little gem with this Greece international. Tzolis gained some Premier League experience at an early age with Norwich but the 24-year-old has returned to England looking much more like the finished article after a good stint with Club Brugge and the initial signs are that he is a snip at £34m.
Emiliano Martinez
8. EMILIANO MARTINEZ (CHELSEA)
Handing over £7.5m for a 33-year-old is part of a change in strategy for Chelsea , who also brought in experienced campaigners Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson this summer. However, while the other two veterans may be just adding strength in depth, Martinez is rated an instant upgrade at his position, with the former Aston Villa ace having won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and twice securing the Yashin Trophy awarded to the best goalkeeper on the planet.
Enzo Fernandez
7. ENZO FERNANDEZ (MANCHESTER CITY)
Following weeks of speculation across the transfer window, Fernandez’s £125m move to City was confirmed late on deadline day and he has now been reunited with former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca at Etihad Stadium. The 25-year-old was another World Cup winner with Argentina four years ago and at his best can be an outstanding box-to-box midfielder, but this summer’s World Cup final red card highlighted a temperamental side that does seem to surface from time to time.
Morgan Rogers
6. MORGAN ROGERS (CHELSEA)
The Blues have had a busy window under new boss Xabi Alonso and Rogers became their record signing in July when he joined from Villa for £117m, putting pen to paper on a seven-year deal. That initially felt like a hefty price tag but the 24-year-old England international has made an instant impact, scoring on his Premier League debut at Fulham before assisting Pedro Neto against Brighton .
Bruno Guimaraes
5. BRUNO GUIMARAES (ARSENAL)
The champions strengthened their midfield by signing 28-year-old Brazil midfielder Guimaraes from Newcastle on a four-year deal. He arrived at the north London club for a fee of £75m and looks a natural fit to slot in alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
Carlos Baleba
4. CARLOS BALEBA (MANCHESTER UNITED)
Baleba’s dip in form last term and niggling injury issues make this a bit of a gamble but based on the promise he had previously shown for Brighton , the potential upside is huge. United were quoted an asking price of more than £100m when inquiring about the 22-year-old Cameroon international 12 months ago, so getting the kind of midfield dynamo they have craved since the days of Bryan Robson, Paul Ince and Roy Keane for £70m could prove a steal.
James Trafford
3. JAMES TRAFFORD (LEEDS)
There were a few eyebrows raised when the Whites forked out £45m to break the club transfer record and make former Manchester City second string Trafford the most expensive British goalkeeper. However, it has to be noted the 23-year-old won both domestic cups when starting throughout those knockout competitions and previously set a Championship record with 29 clean sheets for Burnley , so this signing may ultimately be viewed as a masterstroke.
Elliot Anderson
2. ELLIOT ANDERSON (MANCHESTER CITY)
With Rodri and Bernardo Silva joining 2025 departure Kevin De Bruyne in moving on from the Etihad , the Citizens have had to rebuild their midfield and made an early statement of intent with the £116m capture of Anderson . This is a step up for the quietly effective 23-year-old after an excellent two seasons at Nottingham Forest , but his England performances suggest that will not faze him and this really does look like a can’t-fail signing, similar to when Rice switched to Arsenal .
Bradley Barcola
1. BRADLEY BARCOLA (LIVERPOOL)
The Reds will pay a basic £106m for the 23-year-old France forward and up to £17m in potential add-ons. He joins from PSG , where he won back-to-back Champions League titles over the last two seasons and lifted three successive Ligue 1 crowns. Barcola has some big shoes to fill as the replacement for four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah, but he should quickly have the Anfield faithful on their feet.
