In this post, you can find our League of Ireland tips and predictions along with our weekly acca ahead of the third weekend of the LOI Premier Division season.
It’s that time of the year again! “The Greatest League in the World” is back to light up your weekends!
As we approach the quarterly point of the season, it’s been Dublin Domination in the LOI with Bohemians , St Patrick’s Athletic , Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne all rounding out the top-four.
Next up in the table is Dundalk, who have had a positive return to the Premier Division , Derry City, who are struggling, as are Drogheda, while Galway United have surprised some with their performances. Rounding off the bottom are Sligo Rovers and Waterford, who look in serious trouble.
In 2026? Expect. The. Unexpected.

Before the International Break, Galway United were comfortably dispatched 2-0 by Shamrock Rovers after a 4-3 win over Waterford the previous Monday. John Caulfield has done exceptionally well so far to earn eight points from their opening eight games, especially for a side many hypothesised would be languishing at the bottom. Though it’s very much early days, their mental mantle should carry far
Tiernan Lynch is many people’s prediction for the first manager to lose their job, and the reality is that nine points from their opening eight games is not good enough, especially considering the substantial investment in the off-season. However, the hierarchy above have a reputation of being patient with managers, so the management may be afforded some time yet, if results can come.
Prediction: Galway United 1-2 Derry City
Galway will fight to the bitter end, and Derry City are far from perfect, but I can see them doing just enough to win.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 Goals @ EVS
Shelbourne vs Dundalk
Shelbourne vs Dundalk– Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Shelbourne – 4/5
Dundalk – 3/1
Draw – 5/2

Shelbourne haven’t yet reached the heights I believe that they’re capable of in 2026, but a 0-1 win over Sligo Rovers last time out brings them closer to where they will expect to be come the end of the season. Joey O’Brien seems to have a knack for collecting important results even amid poor performances, and the next few weeks will tell a tale of how successful Shelbourne can be this season, in my opinion.
Dundalk have bounced back strongly following their 4-0 defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic at the end of February to go unbeaten in their last four games with two wins and two draws, including last time out getting a very credible 1-1 away with Bohemians . Though signs are good for Ciaran Kilduff’s side, I wouldn’t get too giddy just yet, and the priority will be to separate themselves from those below them, not Europe just yet.
Prediction: Shelbourne 1-1 Dundalk
Shelbourne aren’t quite performing to their standards, Dundalk are, and I could see this being very tight.
Best Bet: Dundalk or Draw @ 10/11
St Patrick’s Athletic vs Sligo Rovers
St Patrick’s Athletic vs Sligo Rovers – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
St Patrick’s Athletic – 1/3
Sligo Rovers – 15/2
Draw – 7/2

St Patrick’s Athletic are absolutely flying! Though the mood was fairly solemn in advance of the 2026 season, many were arguing that there wasn’t enough change to steer the squad back in the right direction. Stephen Kenny has quietly gone about his business with a few key additions in the off-season, along with a reunion to speak with and observe former assistant Keith Andrews at Brentford . They may just be on a course for a more positive season than many would’ve first thought!.
Sligo Rovers are in trouble, with four points from their opening eight games, currently leaving them nineth in the table. Not surprisingly, it’s issues up-front that have seen their stock fall. In 2025, only four sides scored more goals than the Bit O’Red, but of their 42 league goals scored, 12 were scored and 5 were assisted by Owen Elding, and with him now starring for Hibernian, he’s unsurprisingly been a hard talisman to replace.
Prediction: St Patrick’s Athletic 2-1 Sligo Rovers
Though I fancy the home side, I don’t see the value in a home victory.
Best Bet: Sligo Rovers +2 @ 8/11
Waterford vs Shamrock Rovers
Waterford vs Shamrock Rovers – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Waterford – 9/2
Shamrock Rovers – 1/2
Draw – 16/5

Things aren’t getting any easier for Jon Daly and his squad with Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians next up over the Easter weekend, and though points will not be easy from both if Waterford’s five-match losing streak extends to six or even seven, surely there will be further uncomfortable conversations about the direction of the current management.
Shamrock Rovers haven’t quite come alive this season, but fifteen points from their opening eight games still has them well in the mix at the top of the table and still favourites for the title come the end of the season. A glance at their respective strength-in-depth tells its own story, though I think they’ll have to tread with caution if and when they choose to rotate and the frequency of such, or they may reach their potential.
Prediction: Waterford 0-3 Shamrock Rovers
Waterford are in a sorry state, and it’s hard to see past them losing comfortably.
Best Bet: Shamrock Rovers -1 @ 13/10
Drogheda vs Bohemians
Drogheda vs Bohemians – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Drogheda – 3/1
Bohemians -5/6
Draw – 12/5

Drogheda seemed to have been in disarray on and off the field at the start of the season, but back-to-back draws against Shamrock Rovers at home and 2-2 away to Derry City suggest that Kevin Doherty may have steadied the ship. It’s still difficult to see where their ambitions should lie in 2026. Safety will always be priority, but if they can make a run for Europe again after their infamous expulsion last season, it can’t be ruled out.
Bohemians supporters, players and management couldn’t be much happier with their start to the season, going unbeaten in their first eight games with five wins and three draws to put them three clear of St Patrick’s Athletic in second spot. They’re winless in their last two games, though and a further slip-up on Friday could see them fall to third depending on results elsewhere.
Prediction: Drogheda 1-2 Bohemians
Drogheda are showing signs of life, but it’s hard to back against Bohemians now.
Best Bet: Bohemians @ 5/6
