It’s that time of the week again! “The Greatest League in the World” is back to light up your weekends! In this post, our League of Ireland tips and predictions, along with our weekly acca, ahead of another weekend in the LOI Premier Division.
Shamrock Rovers lead the way at the top six ahead of Bohemians and are eight clear of St Patrick’s Athletic, albeit the latter has one less game played. Dundalk remain fourth, but Shelbourne only trail them by three points.
Toward the bottom, only three points separate Derry City , Shelbourne , Galway United , Drogheda and Sligo Rovers . Waterford remain rooted to the bottom, but five points from their last four games means they can’t be ruled out getting back in the mix.
In 2026? Expect. The. Unexpected.

Shamrock Rovers vs Sligo Rovers
Shelbourne vs Shamrock Rovers Friday 8 pm, Virgin Media Two
Odds
Shelbourne – 8/5
Shamrock Rovers - 8/5
Draw – 21/10

It’s still very difficult to know how good Shelbourne are capable of being and by proxy, how close they’d be to the top if they clicked as well as many expected they would be in 2026. However, they remain difficult to beat, and with three draws and two wins from their last five games, they’re always likely to give a competitive account for themselves even when not at their best.
Shamrock Rovers are top of the Premier Division with 20/36 games, earning a total of 40 points to put them 6 ahead of closest challengers Bohemians in second spot. Though they are in a relatively comfortable position, an even scarier thought for their rivals is that it seems like they’ve gears they can potentially go through yet if they need to click.
Prediction: Shelbourne 1-1 Shamrock Rovers
There’s rarely more than a little to separate both sides; I can see another tight encounter come Friday.
Best Bet: Draw @ 21/10
Derry City vs Bohemians
Derry City vs Bohemians– Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Derry City – 19/10
Bohemians -13/10
Draw – 21/10

Derry City have been the side which has disappointed the most in 2026 and yet Tiernan Lynch remains in the hotseat (at least for now). Following an off-season which promised so much after almost the equivalent of a League of Ireland- style "Galáctico” policy. It, as of yet (not too similar to Real Madrid ), hasn’t translated to consistency in the league.
Bohemians, in many ways, are very much the antithesis in how they position themselves for financial backing when compared to their opponents. However, they’ve still assembled quite the squad and arguably their strongest in several seasons and have quite the chance of solidifying their position in the top three positions with another win.
Prediction: Derry City 1-1 Bohemians
Both sides quite unreliable, but you’d fancy the away side for at least a point.
Best Bet: Bohemians or Draw @ 4/11
St Patrick’s Athletic vs Drogheda
St Patrick’s Athletic vs Drogheda Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
St Patrick’s Athletic - 1/3
Drogheda – 15/2
Draw – 7/2
Preview
St Patrick’s Athletic took a huge step back from any chance of a title challenge last time out when they were defeated 1-0 by league leaders Shamrock Rovers, which was their second defeat to the same so far in 2026. At some point, if Pat’s are to challenge, they need to find consistency, and three-game winless streaks certainly won’t have them where they’d like to be.
Drogheda have been marred by a series of successive issues this season, and that’s before mentioning their league performances. Their latest 3-3 draw against bottom of the table Waterford at home was another example of things not being all right for the club in 2026. They’re winless in their last ten against Pat’s too, so the formbook isn’t in their favour.
Prediction: St Patrick’s Athletic 2-1 Drogheda
Though I fancy the home side to continue their strong head-to-head record, the handicap market looks appealing from a Drogheda perspective.
Best Bet: Drogheda +2 @ 8/11
Galway United vs Dundalk
Galway United vs Dundalk Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Galway United – 17/10
Dundalk – 23/20
Draw – 13/5
Preview
Galway United are a real “sum of its parts” side and their 1-1 draw away to Shelbourne at Tolka Park last time out is another example of them defying expectations. Ahead of this fixture, an interesting subplot is the game being played in Munster FA Turners Cross, which will see John Caulfield return to his former home.
Dundalk are another side which have defied expectations of them in 2026, and two wins and one draw from their last three games has them still in third place. Interestingly, though their 31 goals scored is a match for the top three, their 28 conceded is only better than three sides in the division.
Prediction: Galway United 1-2 Dundalk
The move down to Cork gives a nice subplot, and I can see both getting on the score sheet.
Best Bet: BTTS @ 8/15
Waterford vs Sligo Rovers
Waterford vs Sligo Rovers – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV
Odds
Waterford – 11/10
Sligo Rovers -2/1
Draw – 23/10
Preview
Waterford have improved considerably since the appointment of Graham Coughlan, and their latest 3-3 draw with Drogheda made it five points from their last four league games. However, such is the gap between them and those above them, wins will be needed if they’re to get back in the fight for survival, though this will be a game they target.
Sligo Rovers find themselves in the relegation playoff place, eight ahead of Waterford and seven behind Shelbourne in fifth place. Generally, John Russell’s side find form come the summer months, but they will need to again in 2026, and two defeats from their last three means they’ve yet to find that form as of yet.
Prediction: Waterford 2-0 Sligo Rovers
This is an important game for both, and I think Sligo would settle for avoiding defeat, which may end up being their Achilles' heel.
Best Bet: Waterford @ 11/10
