It’s that time of the week again! “The Greatest League in the World” is back to light up your weekends! In this post, our League of Ireland tips and predictions, along with our weekly acca, ahead of another weekend in the LOI Premier Division.

The season is starting to shape up with the majority of sides having played a 1/3 of their league fixtures following last weekend. Shamrock Rovers lead at the top with St Patrick’s Athletic , Dundalk and Bohemians rounding out the top four.

Derry City have climbed the table after their win last weekend, Galway United remain a point above Shelbourne , Sligo Rovers have climbed to eighth, Drogheda falling to nineth and Waterford are still rooted to the bottom.

In 2026? Expect. The. Unexpected.

Derry City took a huge step toward flipping the narrative on what can be achieved by the current regime when they battled to a 1-2 win over Shelbourne last weekend, which ended a seven-game winless streak. However, further consistency is needed if they’re to distance themselves from the bottom half of the table and make the influence at the top that would’ve been expected of them in 2026.

Shamrock Rovers 2-1 win in the Dublin Derby last weekend over Bohemians, which means they maintained their two-point lead over St Patrick’s Athletic at the top of the table. Though there were significant departures in the off-season, the squad built by Stephen Bradley is still relatively unheard of at this level, and if they can properly click, they will be expected to win the league once again come the end of 20.

Prediction: Derry City 1-1 Shamrock Rovers

Though Derry City have been unconvincing for large parts of the season, I fancy them for some sort of result on Friday Night for their first ever game at Celtic Park .

Best Bet: Derry City Double Chance @ 6/10

St Patrick’s Athletic vs Bohemians

St Patrick’s Athletic vs Bohemians – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

St Patrick’s Athletic – 11/10

Bohemians – 5/2

Draw  – 11/5

Are St Patrick’s Athletic genuine title contenders? Though expectations were low among supporters pre-season following their fifth finish in 2025, Stephen Kenny seemed to start to get a genuine tune out of this squad in 2026 and with twenty-three points from twelve games, they look were on course for a more positive season. The recent addition of bringing James Brown back to the league has proven to be the catalyst for said form.

Bohemians' form has fallen off a cliff since their positive start to the season, and their defeat to Shamrock Rovers last weekend made it six league games without a win, and they have now fallen to fourth in the table. There’s still plenty to like about the squad assembled by Alan Reynolds, and with the likes of Dawson Devoy , Patrick Hickey and Ross Tierney among others, they’re still quietly capable of going on another run.

Prediction: St Patrick’s Athletic 2-1 Bohemians

Though Bohemians were the better of the two in their Aviva opener, their contrasting form since will have the home side deserving favourites.

Best Bet: St Patrick’s Athletic @ 11/10

Shelbourne vs Drogheda

Shelbourne vs Drogheda – Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Shelbourne -  8/11

Derry City – 7/2

Draw  – 5/2

Shelbourne’s 1-2 loss to Derry City made it three consecutive defeats in a row for Joey O’Brien’s team and for a side that was expected to be among Shamrock Rovers' closest challengers, but thirteen points from their opening eleven games has them twelve points back, languishing in seventh place. The genuine duality of their season so far is that they’ve arguably been performing far better than their points tally suggests. The reality is, though former manager Damien Duff criticised the players last weekend, it’s very often the manager who falls in these situations, and so Joey O’Brien needs a few wins on the board sooner rather than later.

From one side in trouble to another side, Drogheda’s defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic, as well as results elsewhere, meant they plummeted to second from bottom after ten points from their opening eleven games, eight without a win since their 2-0 win over Waterford on February 13th. Though Kevin Doherty will not be pressing the panic button just yet, a win is badly needed, or they could find themselves locked in nineth purgatory.

Prediction: Shelbourne 1-1 Drogheda

It may not be quite “El Sackico”, at least when it comes to the manager in the home dugout, but both sides are badly in need of a win, and I’m not convinced we get one.

Best Bet: Drogheda Double Chance @ 11/10

Waterford vs Galway United

Waterford vs Galway United– Friday 7:45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Waterford – 19/10

Galway United – 6/5

Draw – 9/4

Preview

Waterford remain winless with 30% of their league fixtures fulfilled; they’ve only managed to earn four points from their opening eleven games, which has them rooted to the bottom of the table. For now, Jon Daly remains the man in charge in the dugout, but you really get the sense that something will have to give if they don’t come away with a win in this fixture.

Galway United were the side I expected to be rooted to the bottom come the end of 2026, but their tally of fourteen points from eleven games has them currently ten clear of their opponents and in sixth spot. John Caulfield deserves immense credit for the tune he’s getting out of this team, even if the 2-1 loss to Dundalk would’ve been a disappointment last weekend.

Prediction: Waterford 0-1 Galway United

Waterford need a win and thought the away side have done solidly in 2026, this should still be more of their more “winnable” fixtures, even still, I fancy Galway to win.

Best Bet: Galway United @ 6/5

Sligo Rovers vs Dundalk

Sligo Rovers vs Dundalk – Saturday 7:45 pm, LOI TV

Odds

Sligo Rovers – 5/2

Dundalk  – 10/11

Draw – 12/5

Preview

Sligo Rovers picked up a huge win in the context of their season last Saturday when their win over Waterford put them in eighth place, one point ahead of Drogheda and seven points ahead of Waterford, albeit with an extra game played over both. John  Russell has consistently gotten a tune far above the relative resources at his disposal since being appointed in May 2022, which is impressive longevity in 2026.

Dundalk have been the season's surprise packages following their 2025 First Division title victory. Ciaran Kiilduff has continued his masterful management, and twenty-one points from twelve games has them in third place, only two behind St. Patrick's Athletic and four back of Shamrock Rovers . Though their start has been exceptional with 2/3 of the fixtures yet to play, the priority will still be to distance themselves from the relegation battle, aside from anything else, just yet.

Prediction: Sligo Rovers 1-1 Dundalk

Though they’ve both had contrasting fortunes to start 2026, I think both are quite well matched and can see them cancelling one another out.

Best Bet: Draw @ 12/5
