Barcelona are favourites to be crowned Spanish champions for a third successive time in the coming season and the chances of any club breaking the Barca-Real Madrid title duopoly seem as remote as ever.

LaLiga Title Prediction - 2026-27 season

Since Athletic Bilbao won back-to-back championships in 1983 and 1984, the big two have claimed 36 of 42 titles, with only Atletico Madrid, Valencia and Deportivo La Coruna denying them in that period.

Here we take a closer look at who could finish top of the pile in Spain in the 2026-27 campaign in our LaLiga outright winner tips .

Barcelona

Barcelona @ 8/11

Barcelona are looking to become the first club since 2011 to win three successive LaLiga titles and Hansi Flick’s men appear well-placed to achieve that goal. They finished eight points clear of Real Madrid and 22 above third-placed Villarreal last season, winning 31 of 38 games, while their record of 95 goals scored was 18 more than any other team managed.

Barca have seen experienced strikers Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford move on but forwards Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi have been brought in to join a talent-packed squad that includes eight of Spain’s World Cup winners.

The Catalan club are still not back to the level they were a decade ago, evidenced by only reaching the Champions League semi-finals twice since their 2015 success, but a youthful squad certainly has the ability to establish another Barca dynasty.

Real Madrid

Real Madrid 11/10

Real finished last season empty-handed for only the fifth time this century amid more managerial changes and reports of squad unrest, and club president Florentino Perez has gone back to Jose Mourinho in a bid to turn things around.

Mourinho won the 2011-12 league during his previous three-year spell in the Bernabeu hotseat. That may not seem hugely impressive, but it was the only time Pep Guardiola’s all-time great Barcelona side did not finish as champions between 2008 and 2013. It was also achieved with Real setting a host of LaLiga records, including most points (100), goals scored (121) and biggest goal difference (+89).

Real also got the better of Barca in the 2011 Copa del Rey final in Mourinho's first season in charge and the capital club - who did not have a single player in Spain’s victorious World Cup squad - will be hoping for something similar this time.

Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid @ 14/1

Atletico have been the biggest threat to Barca and Real's dominance since Diego Simeone took charge in 2011, with two of the Rojiblancos ’ three title wins in the last 50 years coming under the Argentinian .

However, having finished in the top three every season between 2012 and 2023, Atletico have been something of a fading force in recent seasons, with long-serving stalwarts such as Antoine Griezmann , Rodrigo de Paul , Stefan Savic , Angel Correa and Saul Niguez all moving on.

They were fourth in 2023-24 and 2025-26 - 19 points and 25 points off top spot respectively - and have not won any silverware or reached a final since 2021. Simeone’s presence ensures the Rojiblancos will never be a pushover, but it remains to be seen if he can make them a force to fear in Spain once again.

Nevertheless, Atletico are 4/6 to finish as the leading team outside of Real and Barca , and we expect that to be the case.

Real Betis

Real Betis @ 50/1

Betis’ claim to being the ‘best of the rest’ outside of Barca , Real and Atletico had gathered pace over the last six years. The Seville-based club were playing Segunda Division football barely a decade ago and were 15th in LaLiga in 2020, but since then have not finished outside the top seven.

Three of those campaigns have resulted in sixth-placed finishes while they have been fifth twice, including last season when Villarreal raised eyebrows by finishing third. Betis also reached the UEFA Conference League final in 2025 under the vastly experienced Manuel Pellegrini , losing to Chelsea , and the Europa League quarter-finals last term.

The Andalusians are 11/4 to finish in the top four in Spain this season, while they are 7/1 to finish above every team other than Real or Barca .
