Form Guides

Republic of Ireland’s Form Guide

Though they ended only a little over two months ago, any World Cup aspirations now look a distant memory, with the next competitive goal being the Nations League at the end of the year, which will hopefully provide the team with a much-needed boost ahead of the qualifying campaign for Euro 2028 . That being said, with the fresh squad of names which were named both earlier this month for Grenada and now for their games against Qatar and Canada , Heimir certainly has an eye on the future.

Though the standard of opposition was questionable, the first leg of this transfer window was a resounding success with a 0-5 victory over Grenada after a hat-trick from Jack Moylan and a brace from Tom Cannon . Not only that, but it was a Senior International debut for seven players, including Moylan , Tayo Adaramola , Will Ferry , Millenic Ali, Aidomo Emakhu , Rory Finneran , and Josh Keeley .

The window’s second leg has seen another fresh squad with some of the established heads coming back, accompanied by players playing across seven jurisdictions: England , Scotland , Italy , France , Portugal , the Netherlands and, remarkably, four from Ireland .

Qatar’s Form Guide

Qatar are managed by Julen Lopetegui, a man with plenty of pedigree both at club level and also coaching Spain at underage level on the international stage, guiding them to an U19 Euro Championship in 2012 and U21 Euro Championship in 2013. Though he has a World Cup t o look forward to next month since his appointment in May 2025, he’s only managed two wins and three draws from eleven matches.

Due to the complex ongoing geopolitical situation, Qatar were unable to play out their friendlies against Serbia , Argentina and Sudan earlier this year and so will have this away game against Ireland in Dublin and a game against El Salvador next week as their only World Cup warm-ups. It remains to be seen whether that will have them fresh going into these games or if they will suffer from a lack of match cohesion.

Though the quintet of Ali, Al Haydos, Afif, Khouki and Muntari have 171 International Goals between them, they’ve been kept scoreless in five of their last eleven games and only scored over two goals twice, so expect the step up in standard to be difficult for them Thursday Night.

Key Players To Watch

Key Players To Watch

Jaden Umeh - Republic of Ireland

Cork's Jaden Umeh comes into tonight's game with Qatar with a point to prove, having been pulled from the Ireland squad earlier this month by Benfica to help secure their UEFA Youth League qualification. The 18-year-old became Cork City's youngest-ever player and their youngest-ever scorer before earning his move to Lisbon , and has since been brought into first-team training by José Mourinho . The raw materials are all there with pace, directness and a nose for goal, and on the right trajectory, this kid could be a genuine superstar.

Best Bet: Jaden Umeh Anytime Goal @ 5/2

Almoez Ali- Qatar

Qatar's talisman and all-time leading scorer, Almoez Ali has made over 120 appearances for Qatar and scored 60 international goals, including a record-breaking haul at the 2019 Asian Cup . The 29-year-old Al-Duhail striker is the dangerman Ireland must stop tonight.

Best Bet: Almoez Ali Anytime Goal @ 11/4

Prediction & Tips

Republic of Ireland v Qatar Prediction & Tips

Prediction: Republic of Ireland 2-0 Qatar

Ireland will be looking to continue the good vibes from the Murcia trip and put in a positive showing before a tough away trip to Canada . Qatar will be out to impress too though, having not played in 2026, especially with a World Cup on the horizon.

Though Heimir has spoken up about the opposition in advance of the game, the home side should have far too much quality, provided the game is handled appropriately.
