UEFA European Championship Trophy Euro 2024

Spain are expected to continue their domination of international football at Euro 2028 but the likes of France and co-hosts England could have something to say about it.

Euro 2028 Prediction

La Roja , the reigning world and European champions, are 4/1 joint favourites alongside France to lift the trophy at Wembley in two years’ time, with England 9/2 to be celebrating on home soil.

Here, we take a closer look at the leading contenders in the Euro 2028 outright odds , with the next European Championship being held in England , Scotland , Wales and the Republic of Ireland .

Spain

Spain @ 4/1

Luis de la Fuente’s men have the opportunity to emulate the golden era of Spanish football by winning back-to-back European Championship titles either side of the World Cup. La Roja ruled the roost from 2008 to 2012 as they won the World Cup for the first time in their history and added two more Euro titles to the country’s solitary 1964 win.

The current crop have every chance of following suit and possibly even exceeding the success of that much-vaunted squad, with the Euro 2024 title and 2026 World Cup already in the bag and the likes of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dean Huijsen and Pedri all aged 23 or under.

France

France @ 4/1

France appeared likely champions for much of this summer’s World Cup and will be bitterly disappointed at how their campaign ended, outclassed by Spain in the semi-finals. But, like the Spanish, Les Bleus have all the ingredients to be a major force for the next decade, with many of their star names still yet to reach their peak.

The man tasked with getting the most out of that talent looks set to be France legend and serial Champions League-winning coach Zinedine Zidane , who was Player of the Tournamen t when Les Bleus last won the European Championship back in 2000.

Spain and France are the joint 4/1 favourites in the Euro 2028 outright odds, with England 9/2, Portugal 7/1 and Germany 8/1.

England

England @ 9/2

England will hope home comforts will finally get them over the line in 2028 after a run of frustrating near-misses under Gareth Southgate and his successor Thomas Tuchel . Since 2018, the Three Lions have finished fourth and third at the World Cup , and been runners-up at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 , meaning they have still not lifted a major honour since the 1966 World Cup.

Whether Tuchel can find the winning formula over the next two years remains to be seen, but with the semi-finals and final in their own back garden at Wembley , England may not get a better opportunity.

Portugal

Portugal @ 7/1

Portugal were one of the biggest disappointments of the 2026 World Cup with a star-studded squad failing to fire and on their way home before the quarter-final stage. Questions were asked about the role of Cristiano Ronaldo and decision-making of now-departed coach Roberto Martinez during that failure, and the Iberian nation now face a period of introspection and transition.

But new boss Jorge Jesus has an enviable array of world-class players at his disposal and the reigning Nations League champions are more than capable of repeating their Euro 2016 triumph in 2028.

All eyes will be on Jurgen Klopp to see if he can work his Liverpool magic on a Germany side that has been floundering for over a decade. Klopp ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait to be crowned English champions in 2020 during a hugely successful nine-year spell at Anfield , which also included winning the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Club World Cup .

Klopp is now back in management after being named as Julian Nagelsmann’s replacement and the 59-year-old faces a huge challenge to bring the glory days back to the four-time world champions. Germany and Klopp will hope a return to English soil will serve them well, though, with ‘ Die Mannschaft ’ winning the most recent of their three European Championship titles at Wembley , back in 1996.
