Wrexham 's latest attempt to secure top-flight football for the first time in their history begins on Monday night with a mouth-watering trip to Welsh rivals Cardiff . The Red Dragons were a non-league club as recently as 2023 but have enjoyed a meteoric rise under their Hollywood owners , winning three successive promotions .
It might well have been four on the trot but they finished two points outside the Championship play-off spots last season after winning only two of their last seven games. They are 11/2 with BOYLE Sports to go up this time while opponents Cardiff are 18/1 to make it back-to-back promotions after finishing runners-up in League One last term.
Cardiff beat Wrexham 2-1 at the Racecourse Ground to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals last October in what was the first meeting between the two in over 20 years. And we’re expecting this clash to be another close affair with bragging rights and a good start to the season up for grabs, and our prediction is a score draw @16/5 .

Form Guides
Cardiff form guide
Cardiff finished second to Lincoln in League One as they made an immediate return to the Championship , where they had been a fixture since being relegated from the Premier League in 2019. The Bluebirds ended last season with a 5-1 win over Northampton and 5-4 defeat to Mansfield and their summer schedule has been equally as entertaining on the goalscoring front, with wins over Cork (6-1), Forest Green (5-1) and Roma (4-1) coming after a 6-0 defeat to Midtjylland .
Goals were also on the menu in Cardiff’s Carabao Cup first-round clash with Swindon , with Yousef Salech (2) and debutant Jack Moylan netting in a 3-2 comeback victory for Brian Barry-Murphy’s men . If Cardiff can continue that form then BTTS and over 3.5 goals in total on Monday @ 2/1 is definitely an option, but we think a 1-1 result @ 6/1 could be a better selection.

Wrexham form guide
Wrexham ran out of steam to just miss out on a play-off spot in May but have packed their pre-season with Premier League challenges in a bid to be ready for another promotion push . After sharing a goalless draw with Wisla Krakow , Wrexham defeated Manchester United 1-0 in Helsinki thanks to a first-half goal from Sam Smith .
Wrexham then travelled to the USA , where goals from Kieffer Moore, Bailey Cadamarteri and a late Smith winner earned a 3-2 victory over Leeds , before Phil Parkinson’s side suffered their first pre-season defeats , going down 1-0 to Liverpool and Sunderland .
Wrexham also suffered a 1-0 loss in their first competitive outing as they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Middlesbrough , but Parkinson felt there were “a lot of positives for us” in that match. In contrast to Cardiff , Wrexham’s build-up to the new season has been largely low scoring and they bolstered their backline this week with the signing of Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson for a reported club-record fee.
With all that in mind, a draw at Cardiff City Stadium with under 3.5 goals @ 15/4 is tempting , while if you fancy defences to come out on top, a goalless stalemate is 11/1 .
