Speaking exclusively with BOYLE Sports , England hero Emile Heskey has given his thoughts on the managers and moves shaping football on both sides of the border.
The former Three Lions star has backed Frank Lampard to build his reputation at Coventry City , assessed Anthony Gordon 's move to Barcelona , and explained why Martin O'Neill is doing Celtic a favour by staying on.
The ex- Liverpool and Aston Villa man has also weighed in on Jose Mourinho 's return to Real Madrid , Harry Kane 's future at Bayern Munich , and the contract call over Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Celtic .
Has Lampard Made the Right Call at Coventry?
Frank Lampard is still learning. He had a great learning curve at Everton ; he went back to Chelsea to try and stabilise things and learned a lot there. He's had a good learning curve with Coventry , where he had to build something without spending loads of money. Why not continue that and build his reputation as a manager there?
It won't be easy at Coventry . You have to spend money; otherwise, you'll likely go back down. It's a great experience for him to challenge himself against the best. There will be talk about him as the next England manager if he continues to progress. You have to gain experiences that put your name in the discussion for top jobs. We don't have many English managers in that conversation, so hopefully, he becomes one of them.
How Much Pressure Is on Gordon at Barcelona?
Anthony Gordon is a confident lad. His interviews show he has a good head on his shoulders and good people around him. He works with sports psychologists, so he's mentally ready. He's a very talented player.
Barcelona wouldn't have just gone after him blindly; they've looked at his stats and his temperament. Now it's up to him to step up. He came into this World Cup ahead of Marcus Rashford , so he's clearly doing something right. I don't think it would phase him.
Real Madrid & Bayern
What Do You Make of Mourinho Returning to Real Madrid?
Jose Mourinho has shown he can be a success and is a great man-manager. Real Madrid players don't need excessive coaching; they just need managing. Gareth Bale recently spoke about how you should leave talented players to be spontaneous on the pitch.
I don't think Jude Bellingham will be a problem for Mourinho . Jose will likely get the best out of him and allow him to be the superstar we know he is. It could be a great combination.
Is Kane Right to Stay at Bayern Munich?
When a club like Barcelona is mentioned, everyone's eyes light up, even for Harry Kane , but sometimes it's more about family than football. He's settled with his family, he's at one of the biggest clubs in the world, and he's doing exceptionally well, so there's no reason to rock the boat. So Barcelona might have to work elsewhere.
Celtic
How Do You See the Celtic vs Rangers Battle?
Martin O'Neill is a phenomenal manager. With the right coaches, he'll have the players running through brick walls for him. That's what you need in that league. Long term, Celtic need to figure out what they look like without him, as they've tried several different options that haven't worked. They need to figure out the plan for when he decides to retire. He's doing them a favour by staying on into his 70s and dealing with all that pressure.
Is a New Deal for Oxlade-Chamberlain a Good Call?
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has talent and experience. He might not play every game, but he sets an example for the younger players. These kids need role models to understand how to train hard, eat well, and dedicate themselves to football. You need these people. You need these people to show them. So I think giving him another year is a smart thing to do as they look to keep Rangers away from the title.
