Atalanta vs Bayern Munich
Atalanta to draw with Bayern Munich @ 3/1
Bayern are in formidable form in Germany and Europe , winning 33 of 38 matches this season while losing just twice, but they do not need to look far to see the threat Atalanta poses to their Champions League hopes.
The Italian side won 3-0 at Eintracht Frankfurt in November and then dumped another Bundesliga team out in the play-offs, overturning a 2-0 deficit against Borussia Dortmund to progress 4-3 on aggregate. Bayern should have too much for Atalanta over the two matches, but the 2024 Europa League winners , who have lost just five home legs in their last 24 European ties, won’t go down without a fight.
Atletico Madrid vs Tottenham
Atletico Madrid to beat Tottenham with over 1.5 goals in total @ 11/10
Spurs managed to finish fourth in the league phase despite their miserable domestic form, but they head to Atletico on a run of five successive defeats and with confidence surely at rock bottom.
Diego Simeone’s Rojiblancos saw off Club Brugge 7-4 in the play-offs, winning the second leg 4-1 at home, and followed that up by beating Barcelona to reach the Copa del Rey final , albeit after a major second-leg scare at the Nou Camp.
Atletico have not lost a home Champions League knockout match since 1997, winning 13 of 20 games since then, and we can’t see that run ending at the Metropolitano on Tuesday.
Newcastle vs Barcelona
Newcastle to draw with Barcelona @ 11/4
Newcastle welcome Barcelona to St James’ Park for the second time this season, looking for a better outcome than in September, when Marcus Rashford’s brace earned the Catalan side a 2-1 win.
Eddie Howe’s men were knocked out of the FA Cup at home by Manchester City on Saturday and have been inconsistent in the Premier League , but they are unbeaten in five matches in Europe and in Anthony Gordon (10) and Harvey Barnes (5) have two of the competition’s leading scorers.
Barcelona had a mini-wobble in February, suffering a 4-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, which ultimately cost them a place in the Copa del Rey final and a 2-1 defeat to Girona in successive matches, but otherwise have won 10 of their last 12 matches.
Sporting vs Bodo/Glimt
Bodo/Glimt to beat Sporting Lisbon @ 6/4
Bodo/Glimt and Sporting are flying the flag for the underdogs in the Champions League, and one of them will be an unfamiliar presence in the quarter-finals.
Sporting have not graced the last eight of the European Cup since 1982/83, while Bodo have already become the first Norwegian team to win a knockout tie in the competition after dumping out 2023 and 2025 runners-up Inter Milan .
Bodo have beaten Manchester City , Atletico Madrid and Inter (twice) in their last four European outings and scored at least twice in eight of 10 games en route to the last 16, so Sporting beware.
