Both clubs are unbeaten in the league and locked on 17 points after seven rounds, with Bayern holding the upper hand thanks to an already considerable goal-difference advantage.
Bayern, whose coach Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital last week after collapsing during a training session, are 3/10 favourites to win, and history is on their side. Bayern are flying high on all fronts but it hasn’t always been plain sailing for the two-time reigning German champions. They have won nine of their 13 games, including beating Dortmund 2-1 in the German Super Cup, but they have also had to dig deep to keep their unbeaten start going, especially this month.
Nathaniel Brown’s late leveller salvaged a 2-2 draw at Augsburg in Bayern’s first match back after the international break while they trailed 2-0 to Viking and 1-0 to Arsenal in the Champions League before earning a point.
They also struck in stoppage time to wrap up a 3-1 win over third-placed Freiburg last weekend in a match Kompany missed after being hospitalised. Kompany was also missing for Wednesday’s DFB-Pokal clash with Magdeburg, although again it did not negatively affect Bayern as the holders romped to a 6-1 win to reach the last 16.
Kane was an unused substitute in that match, two days after being crowned the world’s best player in London, but he is sure to be back to lead the line on Saturday. The England captain has an impressive record against Dortmund, including netting in both games last season, and is 17/10 to score at least twice.
Borussia Dortmund Form Guide
Dortmund bounced back impressively from August’s Super Cup loss to Bayern, reeling off six successive wins in all competitions while keeping four clean sheets. Like Bayern, the international break slowed their momentum and they returned to action with back-to-back Bundesliga draws either side of a surprise 1-0 Champions League loss at Bodø/Glimt.
However, they beat Sabah and Eintracht Frankfurt to get their European and Bundesliga campaigns back on track, and on Tuesday they made DFB-Pokal progress with a 3-2 home win over Werder Bremen.
