Arsenal face Borussia Dortmund in the Emirates Cup this weekend on the back of an unexpected friendly defeat to Real Betis in Dublin . The Premier League champions were defeated 3-1 by Betis in front of a 51,000-capacity crowd at the Aviva Stadium in a match which saw Mikel Arteta give 25 members of his squad some minutes.
The Gunners now head back to the Emirates Stadium for their final two friendlies before meeting Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16.
Dortmund are first up, followed by Cesc Fabregas’ Como , and Arsenal will be looking for a repeat of their last meeting with the Germans , when goals from Yaya Sanogo and Alexis Sanchez earned a 2-0 Champions League win at home in 2014.
Dortmund have also enjoyed success against the Gunners , winning three of the eight meetings between the two, but we’re expecting Arteta’s men to come out on top on home soil. Our opening prediction is an Arsenal win @ 20/23 , and don’t forget that with BOYLE Sports’ Early Payout, you will get paid if your selection goes two goals ahead, regardless of the final outcome.

Arsenal’s pre-season programme kicked off with a 3-0 behind-closed-doors win over MK Dons followed by 4-1 victory over Girona as part of the Gunners ’ training camp in Spain . Kai Havertz put Arsenal ahead against Girona at the Montilivi Stadium before £34million summer signing Christos Tzolis opened his account for the club. Girona pulled a goal back but efforts from Max Dowman and Gabriel Jesus earned a comfortable result for an Arsenal side missing the likes of David Raya, Gabriel, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.
Arteta named the same starting line-up for Wednesday’s friendly with Betis , but this time it was the Spanish side celebrating as they ran out 3-1 winners. All four goals were scored in the first half, with Piero Hincapie netting for Arsenal .
Arteta said of his players’ mood after the match: “They are fuming but this is good. That's what we need.” The Gunners boss is likely to go with a strong side against Dortmund , certainly at the outset, and we like the look of an Arsenal win with over 2.5 goals in total @ 9/5.
Borussia Dortmund form guide
Dortmund have had a mixed return from their friendlies so far, which could be a concern for coach Niko Kovac as they count down to the German Super Cup against Bayern Munich on August 22. BVB started out with a 3-1 comeback win over fourth-tier Rot-Weis Oberhausen but that was followed by a 2-1 defeat at Fortuna Dusseldorf and then a 1-0 loss to Cerezo Osaka in the opening match of their Japan tour.
They battled to a 1-0 victory over FC Tokyo in their next outing, Fabio Silva netting the only goal of a game which saw Dortmund's five-strong World Cup contingent return to action, but they now face a step up in opposition against Champions League finalists Arsenal.
Dortmund only failed to score in two Bundesliga games last season as they finished runners-up to Bayern so they clearly know where the back of the net is. You can get odds of 8/15 for both teams to score on Sunday, which could be a sound selection if both managers again decides to make wholesale changes during the match.
