Villarreal to beat Real Oviedo at 4/11
The match between Villarreal and Oviedo is one of two to kick off the new Spanish season on Friday, August 15 and we're backing the Yellow Submarine to sink the visitors from Asturias. Villarreal finished last season in the best form of any team in LaLiga, winning their last six matches, including a 3-2 victory at champions Barcelona, to finish fifth. Villarreal have since lost influential forwards Alex Baena and Thierno Barry to Atletico Madrid and Everton respectively but should still be too strong for promoted Oviedo. They are back in the top flight for the first time since 2001 after winning the Segunda Division play-offs and will do well to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

Marseille to win at Rennes at 10/11
This match also kicks off the Ligue 1 season on Friday, August 15 and Marseille will be desperate to get their campaign off to a flyer at the Roazhon Park as they look to challenge Paris St Germain again. They finished second to PSG last season - albeit 19 points adrift - after an impressive final stretch and with a squad that boasts the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mason Greenwood, Adrien Rabiot and new arrival Angel Gomes, they should be too strong again for a Rennes side they did the double over last term.

Serie A Tip
Bologna to win at Roma at 12/5
These two teams could hardly have finished last season in more contrasting form - Roma winning five of their last six Serie A matches to claim fifth spot while Bologna came home ninth after failing to win any of their last five. But during that poor league run, Bologna also lifted the Coppa Italia after beating AC Milan in the final to end a 51-year wait to lift a major trophy and they will be eager to build on that success. As well as that, the Rossoblu have also picked up three wins and a draw from their last six visits to Roma and we think they could enjoy more success on the opening day this term.
Bundesliga Tip
Hoffenheim v Bayer Leverkusen Draw at 7/2
Hoffenheim have lost their last five matches against Bayer Levekusen and finished 37 points adrift of the Bundesliga runners-up last season, but they will hope the major changes at the BayArena this summer can help them spring an opening-weekend surprise on August 23. Leverkusen have not only swapped coaches, Dutchman Erik ten Hag taking over from the hugely successful Xabi Alonso after a tough time at Manchester United, but they have also seen key players such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Granit Xhaka and Jonathan Tah depart the club. Hoffenheim won this fixture 3-0 in 2022 and could take something from their trip this time too.
