Athletic Bilbao to beat Sevilla @ 11/20
Sevilla have a decent recent record at San Mames, winning on three of their last six visits and drawing 1-1 last season, but Athletic Bilbao should be too strong for the Andalusian side. Athletic had the fourth best home record in LaLiga last term - behind Spain's big three - as they finished fifth while Sevilla only managed to avoid relegation by the skin of their teeth. Sevilla have since appointed Matias Almeyda as their seventh coach in two years but the floundering club - they have not finished higher than 12th in the last three seasons having finished fourth in the each of the previous three - have been fairly quiet on the transfer front and Athletic will be eager to start the new season with a bang in front of their fans.
Ligue 1 Tip
Nice to beat Toulouse @ EVS
Nice finished fourth last season after winning four of their final five games and they boasted an impressive home record during the campaign. Lyon and Nantes were the only teams to return from the Allianz Riviera with a three-point haul in 2024/25 and Nice's final home game was a 6-0 mauling of Brest. Franck Haise's men were beaten home and away by Benfica in the Champions League qualifiers this month but we are backing them to bounce back and overcome a Toulouse side who finished 10th in Ligue 1 last term.
Eredivisie Tip
FC Utrecht to win at Sparta Rotterdam @13/10
FC Utrecht will be hoping for more of the same when they travel to Rotterdam after the two clubs had wildly contrasting fortunes on the opening weekend of the new Eredivisie season. While Utrecht were brushing aside Heracles 4-0 at home, Sparta were being hammered 6-1 at champions PSV Eindhoven. Utrecht, who have also made a flying start to their Europa League campaign, only lost once away from home in the Eredivisie last season en route to finishing fourth while 12th-placed Sparta suffered seven home defeats - including a 4-1 loss to Utrecht.
Liga Portugal Tip
Famalicao to win at Tondela at 6/5
Tondela's return to the top flight after a three-year absence proved a deflating one as they were brushed aside 3-0 at Braga last week and we think the second division champions are set for more disappointment this weekend. Famalicao head into the second round of action sitting atop the table after beating Santa Clara 3-0 and having finished eighth in each of the last three seasons, they look capable of another solid campaign.
